The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

Noob help - update my HyperSpin install or fresh install? (RL?)

I started my HyperSpin project January 2014 which prompted me to build a new PC... 1 year later (and many distractions) and I'm finally back to build my HyperSpin setup only to find so much has changed! As I didn't get too far into my setup, I'm looking for advice on whether I "update" my current setup or "fresh install" and just copy across any Media & roms.

From what I can tell I have:

Hyperspin 1.3.2.0
HyperHQ 1.3.0.0
RocketLauncher.0.0.9
HyperSync Cloud 3.5.0.30

I paid membership for both HS and EmuMovies (for Media sync) and have found HyperLaunch appears to have been renamed RocketLauncher (and improved from what I have read). I'm all for having the latest & greatest versions (especially if updating is easier... which is sounds like RL does).

If "updating" my setup is easy enough please advise... or given I haven't customised much (installed MAME, NES, SNES, N64, GBA... synced Media and setup favourites for each) whether I should just fresh install (and assume I can just copy/overwrite Media folders and still use HyperSync).

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks :)

OS (C:\) = Windows 8.1 x64
HyperSpin Path (SSD) = C:\HyperSpin (everything in here except MAME roms & CHDs)
MAME CHDs Path = E:\Torrents\MAME 0.161 CHDs (Merged)
MAME roms Path = E:\Torrents\MAME 0.161 ROMs (Torrentzipped-split)

On a side note... I could get NES, SNES and N64 roms to launch in my old setup (rom sets were .sfc, .n64, etc) but have since grabbed a .7z set (to match the HS XML files) and HLHQ won't launch .7z roms for any system... even after I found a HLHQ setting to point to the 7z.exe path. If I unpack all the .7z sets the roms work, but would prefer to leave them as .7z to save space on my SSD. I installed the x64 version of 7-Zip (not sure if that is an issue?)

7z works for me.. Add 7z|smc to the file extension then (if not running a global emulator)

the majority of emulators do not support direct 7z loading.

if you enable 7z support in HyperllaunchHQ; HyperlaunchHQ will unpack your 7z  files into a temp directory and load your unpacked roms. Depending on the settings you select. It will delete or save your temporary unpacked rom.

my advice to you is

un pack your 7z files, and then ZIP your files. all the emulators for the systems you wan't NES,SNES and N64 support direct ZIP loading.

ZIP compression will save some disc space and you will be able to play your roms directly with no need to enable 7z support.
