Styphelus Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 I've been using Retroarch for my PSX games but I'm not really happy with the graphics. I can't find a filter I like. so I decided to give Epsxe a try but can't get the thing to work. My rom set is a mix of bin/cue and img/ccd If I load a bin file I get the message "recompile block too large" If I load a img file it tels me my virtual drive can't mount img. Does this emulator only accept ISO files? Should I even switch from Retroarch?
pinsanity Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 I am one of the black sheep since I prefer ePSxe over Retroarch. The latest ePSXe version 1.9.25 has yet to fail to load a game for me so far now that it supports multiple track games. A couple of tips. In HL: Bin/cue files work fine. Set the cue file to load first as priority. Daemon Tools enabled to false. Set SCSI to true.
Styphelus Posted May 7, 2015 Author Posted May 7, 2015 Ok thanks, I'll try that. I've been playing around with it and the graphics look so much better than Retroarch. Also better compatibility. Retroarch refused to play certain games. Bumped the graphics all the way to the max and man is it gorgeous! Even added in some faint scanlines and everything looks really good. However, have you been able to make it run at 4:3? I've tried playing with all the settings but so far no luck. It always stretches to full screen. I read that that the PSX actually supported an early HD format at 15:9 ratio. Not sure if that's true but the graphics don't look stretched so there might be something to that. I did notice that some games will get a black bar at the bottom and top (Catlevania, Crash Bandicoot). Were the original games like that? Any recommendations on plugins?
nimpa Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Tell us your video/graphic settings then.. If its that "good" as u saying.. I mean its psone we're talking about here. Hehe Skickat från min iPhone med Tapatalk
Styphelus Posted May 7, 2015 Author Posted May 7, 2015 I'll post some screenshots later on today. It's a huge difference. I'm just using the plugins that came with the emulator but it's a huge improvement over Retroarch.
Metalzoic Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Good to know. When I set up PSX I'll give this a shot.
Styphelus Posted May 11, 2015 Author Posted May 11, 2015 Does anyone know how to map a different key to exis ePSXe? Seems like the only way to exit is with the ESC key. I have a different key assigned to Hyperspin that I use for every other emulator but it dowsn't work in this case.
