gr0bda Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 In HyperHQ I know I can check show parents only, but unless something changed last time I checked that removed some of the games that even though are clones play or behave totally different from parents enough so to justify to leave them in the main list, there is also issue that different games have different origin and parent not necessarily is the one I would like to keep like Puck-man immediately comes to mind. Last but not least I don't want any mahjong or fruit machines polluting my HS. How Do I customize it? I heard I could use Don's Hyperspin tools, but I just looked at the website and it says it no longer supported and last release is dated from somewhere around 2013. Any recommendations how to deal with that?
SkyHighGam3r Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 If I understood correctly, you want to make it so only the games you want show up in a hyperspin wheel. If that's the case, it's honestly quite easy to just do manually. ( Depending on the size of your romlist ) Open up your XML file ( Should be in Hyperspin/Databases/<Insert System Name>/<Insert System Name>.xml ) Start deleting entries for games. The formatting is universal for these XML across all your database files. I even have gone so far as to just copy the header/footer of one, and then created my MAME file from scratch that way. Personally I can't stand all the fluff that comes with the default setups (sports games, shoot 'em ups, barbie games etc) so I have systematically removed them all by doing what I outlined above. As far as "Clones" or "Parents" I just deleted all of that and put games next to eachother alphabetically. End result? A fully customized list of roms in whichever system. It will only show what you want, and you can delete the rest of the fluff. If you like I can post an example of my XML file for one of my systems so you get the idea. I hope I was helpful, if not tell me lol and I'll see what else I can do.
Dabil Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 The way I have been doing it is use Windows explorer to go to the hyperspin\database\mame directory. Open the mame.xml file and manually edit it using notepad. Just make sure you create a backup before you begin so you can revert to your old database if you mess things up. You will notice that each game entry is in it's own block with a start and end tag. Delete the entire block including the tags to remove abb entry.
gr0bda Posted June 7, 2015 Author Posted June 7, 2015 Sounds simple enough I guess. I'll give it a try. Just one but... 8000 entries that's quite an undertaking, no? Would be much easier to just check/uncheck a name? Plus it's asking for accidental erasing of something simple like a single symbol " or /, etc. to break it down Thank you for quick replies though!
Dunk3000 Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 If you use rocketlauncher, it can create an xml list from your rom folder. It's on the emulator tab, so you set ur emulator and rom folder, make sure you got just the games you want in there, and hit the little database icon. It only does name and description (duplicate of name) and will overwrite ur current database - so make sure u backup original. But might be a quick fix for you? Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
trebukenz Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Can't you use HyperTOOls for this? I have not done so yet, but it looks like it can do this well...
Roadrunner Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 I wouldn't start messing with the DB. Easiest way I've found is to only download the themes you want and then tell HyperHQ to only show games with themes. Nice, clean and easy. When you start monkeying around with the DB and renaming games things can get messy down the road. Atari 2600 Theme Pack - Now Uploaded! EDIT: I was thinking about what you said some more and I came to a conclusion that I would be in the same situation as I am now with (let's call them) non-standard clones vs unexpected parents. Example of unexpected parent to me is Pac-Man, which is a clone of Puck-Man(J), so in order for Pac-Man to get a theme I would have to have themes for parents and clones enabled so I would be stuck with every clone and parent. Minus games without themes Same with Black Tiger parent vs Black Dragon clone that plays totally different from the parent so both are worth keeping DoDonPachi another one with different clones (black label and another one I don't remember off top my head) and then there is regional and nostalgia issue Rush'n'atack I know as Green Beret and I'd like to keep both same with Contra which I know as Gryzor, would like to keep both as I now know what Contra is now. Since there is 7! clones clearly I don't need more beyond the 2 different names

Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk I do have RL, and it's another great idea, but this one requires duplicate of every rom in another folder. Then what if I want a clone that requires parent in order to work? How would RL deal with that? And also again comes down to almost manually sifting through 8000 of roms
Zeosstud Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Not sure just how many game you want to play in Mame, maybe just make a good favorites list, then go right into it when you open the Mame wheel.. Could be a temp solution.. easier and a bit funner that editing an xml file
gr0bda Posted June 8, 2015 Author Posted June 8, 2015 Im using romlister for sorting out My mame games What can be achieved with rom lister regarding my issue?

I just don't know can I make hyper spin load straight into favorites or it would have to be selected after loading the messy looking list?
Zeosstud Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 C:\hyperspin\settings\mame.ini edit that and make sure start_on_favorites=Yes Problem solved. You can set this for all the emulators, this feature is not particularly well documented as I looked and looked for it awhile back, but its certainly there.

Hey, thank you, I think that might be the best way to go about it
