shaybe Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I was thinking today about some of the awesome handheld games I had as a kid. I tried doing a quick search but I don't even know what to look for. Does anyone know if there is some sort of emulator for these old handheld games out there? I think tiger was the main producer www.handheldmuseum.com/Tiger/Tiger-StreetFighter2.jpg
evil eye Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I used to have at least 15-20 of those little games. I think my mom threw them all out after we moved. I would love to know if an emulator exists for these as well.
brolly Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 There are several handheld simulators (not emulators of course), but I have no idea if there are any from Tiger Electronics. Check here: http://www.handheld.remakes.org/gamesindex.php
evil eye Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 They have at least one Tiger game, Tiger Baseball, but that's from before my time. That site is crazy though, they have Tomagatchi and Speak and Spell (like from E.T.) simulators.
shaybe Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 Thanks for the link. I am sad I can't seem to find the games I remember from my childhood. Maybe I'll just have to track down some of them in real life. I remember wanting to start my own neighborhood arcade with some of those games, a little pinball machine and my sega genesis
TerrenceCain Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 This site has hand held electronic game emulators. Some are Tiger, I believe. http://www.pica-pic.com/#
brolly Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Yeah that site is great, but you need to play them online and in the browser so really not very interesting in a HS point of view.
relic Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 but you can use them with that flash player program rain made 100%
Zinger19 Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Very cool post/find you guys. Just one more way for me to relive my childhood. NES Arcade Build StarKade: A Raspberry Pi Arcade 80's Toy Collection
brolly Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 but you can use them with that flash player program rain made No, it won't work. All the swf files are protected and can't be played offline unless someone can hack them.
Rain Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 This site has hand held electronic game emulators. Some are Tiger, I believe. http://www.pica-pic.com/# You can download the games from Pica-Pic just fine, and play them locally as well. However, the problem is that they are all super HD (I guess that is the correct term: 3020 x 1840) and set to stage UL. This becomes a problem as the most you can see are the huge buttons of the game; in order to work properly you would have to decompile each game set the stage to CENTER and recompile, then you could adjust the flashvars to 2 so that it scales to your monitor. Simple enough to do, just tedious.
brolly Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Are you sure about this Rain? I know nothing about Flash, but a friend of mine who already hacked a bunch of flash games for me looked into these a year ago or so and he told me the games were protected and couldn't be run offline and he wasn't able to hack them. Unless something changed since then. Heck I can't even figure how to download the correct swf files now, I can only download an index.swf file. Would be nice to at least be able to get the Game & Watch games playable.
Rain Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 I submit for your approval (see attached file), it is very possible, just not probable. As you can see the buttons do work. cdeaeed196642f6307ed0d4ae982562epenguin.zip
brolly Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Interesting, I'll check with my buddy to see if he can have a look at this and see if things are any different from back then, thanks. Btw what did you use to download the swf?
Rain Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Used a simple ripper brosky; here is the entire 25 game library. pica-pic.zip
relic Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 its no good rain you cant see the whole screen of them only half nice attempt tho 100%
dustind900 Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 its no good rain you cant see the whole screen of them only half nice attempt tho There is no error on Rain's end, the rips are perfect. He explained the problem literally 6 posts ago. The resolution is too high, you have to decompile the source, adjust the positioning and scale, then recompile. What if somebody, I can't imagine who, made an ActiveX emulator? I guess it wouldn't really be an emulator, but in spirit it would be. Said app would maybe have an ini to store urls of flash games and could be launched with HL by maybe sending the URL as the romPath. I don't know that was just off the top of my head, I'm sure it could be better than what I dreamed up, but you get the idea. Now if only we knew someone who could whip a simple app like that out in a night.
