Was wondering how you guys keep your mame themes up to date and ready to use with the latest databases. It seems like everytime I update mame I have less and less themes. i can guess its because name changes, but is there a secret to this?

Good question, also does HyperSync download the themes from the same place as the FTP? Because there seem to be a whole bunch of themes on there that don't sync or are different to the ones HyperSync downloads.

Not sure. I wonder if they rename the themes in Hypersync or just let the names fall behind and quit working. I have no idea really.

I do know that there are tons of themes on the FTP and in the download section here that aren't on Hypersynce. Bummer, because when I paid I was under the impression that it was a service kept up to date so I wouldn't have to spend a ton of time finding missing themes or just better themes and adding them one at a time.

They have been updating Sync regularly lately though so maybe it's improving? Personally I think that every theme that gets uploaded to the download section here should be put into Hypersync right then. Why that doesn't happen I don't know.

No we don't rename them. we have 4 hands that  do everything at the moment, forum, hypersync, download section,ftp.wise.and for us this is also a hobby. plus we have a life too and don't get paid for this stuff. sorry guys i wish it was different too. but it's just too much work. we do what we can, when we can.

There is a program in Don's tools that does the job. i am not sure

Well, it works great for the most part. Here's what I did:

1. Download all the themes/artwork from the FTP to your theme/artwork folder. Be careful not to overwrite anything. This is to ensure you have all the artwork.

2. Use Rom Folder Cleaner to move all the mismatched artwork to another temp folder.

3. Rename zip folders to another extension (I used .bum)

4. Use ROM file renamer from Don's tools on the temporary folder. Switch off CRC matching. You will have to manually match a lot and also skip any mature/mahjong ones you don't want.

5. Rename .bum back to .zip

6. Add to your folder.
