sreisig1 Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Haven't done much configuration in the past year, took some time off. I currently have MAME .155 with .155 roms/chds. I see there is .166 now. I also see there is something called RocketLauncher. I am using Hyperlaunch. Any benefit to upgrade to MAME .166? Any benefit to convert to Rocket:auncher?
joe35car Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Yes upgrade. MAME is always redumping roms, fixing bugs, and also tweaking the drivers. HyperLaunch is no longer as they moved on to RocketLauncher.
Aorin Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Rocket Launcher is a great milestone compared to the former HyperLaunch, one of the most notable changes among these is that Rocket Launcher now updates everything with its built-in updater, no need to any third party apps anymore, or digging for updated modules etc. About the MAME thing, the question is, among all games you use to play in it, is there one that you find it not running the way it should? Do you feel any need to upgrade or are you missing some title in there? If your answer is NO, why updating it every month? Just update it if you really feel the need to, otherwise you'll be slaved monthly with a misguided need to feel updated. Aorin
joe35car Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Well even older games get redumped or fixed. Example is jumpbug in the last release fixing the star field background. but like Aorin said it's a personal preference. I just sometimes don't get it when people don't update MAME. It takes a few minutes and most know how to audit their roms and find the new ones.
sreisig1 Posted October 14, 2015 Author Posted October 14, 2015 Alright thanks. I'll have to try and rememeber how to update the roms. Updated to .155 a year ago so hopefully I can remember how to do it easily. If I rememebr correctlky I used clrmamepro and downloaded a full new set instead of an update set. Also need to remember which MAME I'm using. Took me forever to find one that worked ok with two Aimtrak guns. As for rocketlauncher it's stil moving forward? I thought I read somewhere that hyperspin reverted back to hyperlaunch? How do I go about switching over to rocketlauncher?
Aorin Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 In Rocket Launcher forums you'll find everything you need to update, and where you read that Hyperspin reverted back to Hyperlaunch? RocketLauncher is always moving forward, updated frequently. Aorin
sreisig1 Posted October 14, 2015 Author Posted October 14, 2015 Thanks. I don't remember where I saw that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. As for updating MAME. Since I'm far behind Ill need to grab the full sets right for clrmamepro, not the update set? Here's where I saw it: http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/files/file/5599-hyperspin-133-full-install/ http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/topic/8008-hyperlaunch-2-coming-back-wtf/

I read the first comments of the thread you read about reverting to HL, well, I'm using RL for some good time now and I see no reason why someone would revert, maybe to use a specific module in a specific case? Something most people probably don't know, I bet the lurkers, is that RocketLauncher is actually what HyperLaunch was, the change in its name was to people who uses other frontends to know that RocketLauncher is a Frontend manager that isn't exclusive to Hyperspin, also, the built-in updater made our lives so easier that reverting back to HL seems totally pointless. You can probably get the full install for HS then get HS 1.4 from the downloads section as well, just replace executable from 1.4 version and you're good to go. Aorin

Just ordered another hdd for a backup. Yea I know it's made by the same devs. So you're saying I should grab HS 1.4 as well? Isn't it just the beta and should wait until the real version is out? I don't want to go screwing up my install haha, so much to do. Pretty sure I have Hyperspin 1.3.2 right now. I'll have to check when I get home. Need to update my HS now? Upgrade to RocketLauncher, and update MAME to .166
sreisig1 Posted October 14, 2015 Author Posted October 14, 2015 So say I want to update HS to 1.4. Is it as simple as downloading and replacing my exe? Or do I need RocketLauncher first? What would be the best steps to tackle all of this? Going to backup my entire drive before I go attempting anything. Should I update RocketLauncher first, HS second? And then I'll worry about mame after that.

You should update both HS and RL, it doesn't matter the sequence, but both should be in their latest versions, for instructions to update to RL, check RL forums, they're very useful an replies your doubts as soon as they can. Yeah worry about your emulators after all that. Aorin
Aorin Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Keep this thread alive so we can help you to back on the track. Aorin
sreisig1 Posted October 14, 2015 Author Posted October 14, 2015 Will do. I will post back when I start makng changes. Have a new hdd coming in the mail in a couple days, going to want to backup everything first before messing with it. And if all goes well I'll be able to backup the new updated project in case 1 ever fails. Thanks for your help thus far.
