HyperSpin - Specific Path Does Not Exist (Spoiler Warning; It does)

Recommended Posts

Hey Yall,

I think im starting to understand the madness that is Hyperspin.....

So I have been trying to figure out how to install PC games into Hyperspin. A simple task by most stretches of the word except, most tutorials I find are either out of date (using a older version) or  use either ONLY RocketLaunch or ONLY HyperLaunch.

Anyway, so I tried adding ReMooD (4 player split screen doom) to Hyperspin, I could get it to run normally, I could get it to run through RocketLaunch, but for whatever reason i could never get it to run through hyperspin, I always ran into an error.

Some many hours later and a small break, I sat back down, changed something.....and it worked. Hurray!
cannot for the life of me remember what I did, but it worked.

Now I go and add another PC game to the list an-----why do I have this exact same error?
What did I do!?!?! How did I fix this before!?!

Anyway so im getting this error.....but it makes no sense.

NOW, Doom works fine and Lethal League is installed the exact same way as I installed Doom, Doom works, Lethal League does not.

Could someone please shine some light on this madness? :3

Thank you

If u are using hyperspin u really need to use some sort of launcher. Get rocketlauncher and it basically runs itself

Is Ninja right? Are you trying to run PC games straight through Hspin without using RocketLauncher/PC Games module?

If so then I'd say that's the madness you need to shine the light on.

As the others have stated, you would be crazy not to use RocketLauncher. I used Giga's guide for PC games and the steps were exactly the same even though the vid is almost 2 years old and it uses HyperLaunch. So my advice would be to follow that tutorial or another one that uses HyperLaunch/RocketLauncher, it doesn't really matter which the tutorial uses.

Hey all, thanks for the responses

I generally do use rocketlaunch however in seeing games launched ONLY through hyperspin I thought I would give it a try. I also had trouble getting it to work through rocketlaunch. Doom seemed to work just fine, so....

Anyway!
I took your advice and tried going through RocketLaunch, following Giga's Guide (turns out I had already viewed his guide). Like originally, I ran into issues with it.

Right now, I can get Both Doom and Lethal League to run through Rocketlaunch, However when Running through HyperLaunch, nothing happens. I run the diagnostic and I receive a;

03:56:20 PM |  HyperLaunch launched directly
03:56:22 PM |  HyperLaunch received "PC Games" and "Doom"
03:56:23 PM |  INI Keys read
03:56:23 PM |  Possible duplicate launch.  is already running, closing HyperLaunch

Now I have run into this problem before when hyperlaunch was getting stuck as a background process, I have a since applied a fix (I no longer see it in my task manager after exiting) YET This error still occurs.

I tried running them through Hyperspin and....same sorta thing.

Right now, both Doom and Lethal League do not work, however all already working Roms through my MAME emulator in Hyperspin do.

Any ideas?

I'm a little confused, are you using HyperLaunch or RocketLauncher? I may be misreading but it seems like you said you're running both.

Yeah, I'm confused what you're saying too. Are you running Hyperspin with RocketLAuncher or are you running Hyperspin with the old HyperLaunch?

It sounds like he may be running both, in which case HS is probably connected to HL not RL. That would explain why the games work from RLUI but not HS and his mame setup still works (because it's working through HL). Would also explain why the HS.log file that he posted isn't mentioning RL at all. Just a theory.

That's what it sounds like to me too. But why set it up that way?

TC for PC Games (instructions are probably in the PC Launcher module settings section)

1. Use RocketLauncher.

2. For Steam games you need to make sure the game is listed in your SteamIDs file, which is in your RocketLauncher/modules/PC Launcher folder.

(keep a backup too, the RLauncher auto-update like to overwrite this file)

3. You also need to make sure your Hyperspin PC Games database is built correctly with each games Steam ID listed in the title (check the example DB)

4. If it's a Steam game then from the Module settings in RocketLauncher it should have the Steam ID only. DO NOT also add the path to the exe. If it's a non-Steam game then put the path to theexe and leave the Steam ID field blank.

5. If it's a Steam game you must run it straight from Steam the first before it will work in Hyperspin.

6. Many (if not most) PC games will need you to use the FadeTitle option in the RLauncher module settings. Click the window icon for the setting to start the process and it will give you further instructions.

I know that's all a bit vague and probably no help, but I really have no idea what you already know and what you don't...

Ah, found a more detailed post I made in an old topic. Post #7. Maybe that will help you (this is pre RocketLauncher, but the process is about the same)

http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/topic/8766-pc-games-and-steam-games-together-under-one-system/

I'm gonna wait until he confirms what the setup is (HL and/or RL) but it sounds like he has everything set correctly in RL (mentioned the games running through RL but not HS). Sounds like he just needs to migrate the existing HL setup to RL, but again I'm just going on what I think is happening.

Ah I see the confusion here

I was just testing the game to see if it would work by just running the Hyperlaunch exe by itself and selecting the game I want to test, faster than booting up hyperspin.

In seeing your post I double checked to see if I had infact, installed Rocketlaunch correctly. Rocketlaunch is indeed connected to hyperspin as a front end and in checking hyperspins settings.ini, it does know where rocketlaunch is.

running hyperlaunch.exe and checking the hyperlaunch.txt yields a different than running  hyperspin and checking the hyperlaunch.txt debug dump .  Just figured that out.

Anyway....seems to be an issue of HyperSpin still running Hyperlaunch instead of Rocketlaunch, despite having my Hyperlaunch_Path= C:/Hyperspin/HyperLaunch/Rocketlauncher.exe (Also tried just C:/Hyperspin/HyperLaunch). At least I think thats the issue....Should HyperLaunch still be running if Rocketlaunch is the pre-set launcher?

Im getting that pesky lingering HyperLaunch bug again....no idea what is causing it now.

I am at a loss and I have no idea where to start in describing what is not working.

If it would help, let know what data/info you would like and I will post it in my next reply.

Problems that exist right now;
PC games wont launch
MAME games wont launch after a MAME game has been launched and then exited.
SNES games wont launch (something about not having Hyperlaunch 2 module for SNES, create one or check hyperlist)

Yeah, sounds like you have a path/setting crossed somewhere. You are running Hyperspin 1.4 beta or 1.5 right?

Why is your RocketLauncher.exe inside a folder named Hyperlaunch. Did you upgrade to RocketLauncher from Hyperlaunch, and if so did you not use the transition tool to do it?

HyperLaunch.exe should not be running, and it shouldn't be in your install at all if you have RocketLauncher. RL is a replacement of HyperLaunch. Another thing I noticed is that you have your RocketLauncher exe inside a HyperLaunch folder inside the HyperSpin folder. You should have your RL install inside a RocketLauncher folder completely separate from HyperSpin since it is a separate program, like C:\RocketLauncher, so your path would be C:\RocketLauncher\RocketLauncher.exe.

I know HyperSpin doesn't like it if you have your HS folder is anything other than "HyperSpin", so I don't know if not having the folder as "RocketLauncher" is causing issues or not. Even so it's better to have it in a folder on the root of the C:\ drive. I would advise moving RL (then change path in Settings.ini) like I specified and delete HyperLaunch.exe and see if that fixes anything.

This is frustrating

Just to make sure I have done everything correctly I did a fresh install of everything, placing Rocketlauncher in a renamed folder of HyperLaunch in my C Drive. (As suggested)

I realized I was not using the most recent version of Hyperspin, I was using the 1.3.3 full version. However seeing as the download for 1.4 is only a new exe and some scripts I simply copied that to my 1.3.3 folder and overwrote the exe.

After reconnecting everything and reconfiguring all my emualtors....I am Yet again....running into the exact same problems.

Im stumped.

What do you mean by the "renamed folder of HyperLaunch"?

Nezul it kind of sounds like you're mixing and matching things and getting stuff scrambled a bit.

I'd recommend following Ghutches guide, from the beginning. Start over. Set up the newest HSpin right, then move on to setting up RLauncher from scratch just right.

Here's the turotial, follow that and then his links, actually read it all and you should be good:

http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/tutorials/article/49-written-step-1-installing-hyperspin-w-rocketlauncher/

Here's the actual forum version of that tutorial with a much more step-by-step approach. Might work better for you.

I have a fully working build for Commodore Amiga now on my NVIDEA Shield (2017 model). It took me a good while to get it up and running.

I thought it might be useful to post an 'all in one place' tutorial. Thanks go to Honosuseri over in this post for convincing me it was possible.
Commodore Amiga is infamously painful to configure on any and all emulation setups. Retroarch takes the pain out of some of this, since we don't need individual .uae files for every single game now. But there are still some hoops to jump through.
      Onto the tutorial

      1. Find/setup your own Hyperspin
Hyperspin is free and available on this very website. Install the app on your NVIDEA Shield, and compile your roms and Hyperspin setup on an appropriately sized external harddrive/USB.
As for the ROMs, videos, wheel images and all the aesthetic stuff you need to get your setup running, you will have to source that yourselves. The Hyperspin website is good for some material, emumovies for videos, and Google and Archive dot org for everything in between.
For this setup I used a properly named romset for Commodore Amiga in .zip format, but you can also use .lha or .hdf format. .lha is smaller in size, but all of these run pretty much the same on Retroarch now.
There is no need for those pesky .uae files anymore!!!!!!!!!!
Once you have all your roms, you will need to allocate them to the right videos and images and build your .xml database. The info for how to do this is available elsewhere on this very website. I used HyperspinChecker to do this.
Now, onto the part where we make Hyperspin and Retroarch play nicely so you can finally play your Commodore Amiga games
      2. WHDLoad and kickrom setup (bios file preparation)
I obviously can't link to kickroms or WHDload.hdf and some other stuff, but Google is your friend.
You can get kickroms legally as part of the Amiga Forever app on Google Play Store for only £1.79.
You ABSOLUTELY NEED to get hold of these EXACT kickroms:
kick34005.A500 kick37175.A500 kick40063.A600 kick40068.A1200 Some info on kickrom file names and how to match them up correctly can be found here.
MAKE SURE THE FILENAMES ARE PRECISE! I left one of those As in lowercase and Retroarch didn't like it.
You also need a properly prepared WHDLoad.hdf file: ADD THESE EXACT KICKROMS TO YOUR WHDload.hdf file (guide to do this here using ADF Opus)
Copy all these file to the external drive you are keeping your Hyperspin setup on (I made a 'bios' folder in mine for safe keeping).
      3. Retroarch Setup
Install the latest Retroarch on your NVIDEA Shield (probably works on other Android setups too). You can do this through the Google Play store, but as of writing this, version 1.8.9_GIT definitely works.
You will need to make sure you have setup a way to load the Retroarch main menu from within games. Go to 'Settings', 'Input', 'Hotkeys' and set the 'Menu Toggle Gamepad Combo' to something like 'Select + Start'.
Download the latest Commodore - Amiga (P-UAE) core from within Retroarch (use 'Online Updater' menu)
Now 'Load Core' and choose the P-UAE Core. Start the core, then immediately go back to the Retroarch menu (Start + Select). From the 'Quickmenu' select 'Options'. Change the 'Model' here to something with plenty of power like the 'A1200 (2MB + 8MB)'. Scroll down to 'Global Boot HD' and 'WHDLoad Support' and make sure both of these are marked as 'Files'.
One other thing from within Retroarch: having a way to 'Quit' from within games is useful for Hyperspin. So go to 'Settings', 'Hotkeys' choose a button for 'Quit Retroarch' (I use the click of my Left Analogue, but anything will do). You may also need to mess around with button mappings, but most of this should work fine if you have a NVIDEA Shield compatible gamepad. Mouse and keyboard are also, obviously, nice additions for Amiga stuff.
Go back to 'Quick Menu', 'Overrides' and select 'Save Core Overrides' to make sure your Retroarch Amiga setup is saved.
      Lastly, and very importantly...
Leave Retroarch. You will need an Android directory viewing program like 'FX File Explorer' for this step. Copy the EXACT kickroms listed above and the WHDload.hdf file you created into the /Retroarch/System/ folder on the INTERNAL drive of the NVIDEA Shield.
      4. Commodore Amiga.ini Commands
In your Hyperspin setup you should now have all your roms, videos, images, menu setup, and a Commodore Amiga.xml database file all neat and tidy.
You now need to get Hyperspin to talk to Retroarch properly.
Back on your PC, load your Hyperspin folder and go to the /Settings_Android/ folder.
Create or open the Commodore Amiga.ini in a text editor. Most of the stuff in here will be the same as other systems, but you can find my ini file attached here.
Make sure the top lines in your ini read like this:
[exe info] path=H:\hyperspin\emulators\Commodore Amiga\ rompath=Roms/Commodore Amiga/roms userompath=true exe=com.retroarch/com.retroarch.browser.retroactivity.RetroActivityFuture romextension=zip, hdf, lha,HDF,ZIP,LHA parameters=cores/puae_libretro_android.so searchsubfolders=false pcgame=false winstate=HIDDEN hyperlaunch=true Each of these lines corresponds to your setup. So if you have your roms folder somewhere else, you need to tell the file. If you are ONLY using .zip versions of your roms, then you don't need the entire 'romextension=zip, hdf, lha,HDF,ZIP,LHA'  line - you can change this to just 'romextension=zip' and it will work fine. (But my line here covers all the possible rom extensions, so you can leave it). The 'exe' and 'parameters' entries are really important, as this tells Hyperspin to load Retroarch, and then Retroarch which core to load for Commodore Amiga.
Save your file, and hook your Hyperspin external drive back to your NVIDEA Shield.
      5. Play some games
Everything *should* be working now. If you are having problems with videos and roms matching up, or entries showing in the Amiga menu on your Hyperspin, then that is an issue with your original setup. There are many tutorials out there.
I can vouch that THIS EXACT setup works great, and loads and plays most Amiga games I have thrown at it without too many glitches.
      6. Now, please answer me a Q
When using an external mouse in Retroarch and playing a game like Lemmings, I get TWO cursors - the in game Lemmings cursor, and the NVIDEA Shield arrow.
Does anyone know how to get rid of this for good? Thanks
      Commodore Amiga.ini

      Hi,
Die Buttons (also A, B ,... ) beim Xbox One Controller gehen aber trotzdem noch.
Anmerkung: Der Hori Fighten Stick hat als Input für Up,Down,....POV
      Schon mal Danke im Voraus

      Hello guys,
I'm working on a Tate build with Hyperspin for candy 15khz cab.
I made it for used with jammAsd or ipac2 or something who use a keyboard encoder.
I was thinking to find solution for people who will used it with a 1player panel with 3buttons and start.

      Usually the keybinding is
      Start p1 . 1
      Button 1 . Lctrl
      Button 2 . Lalt
      Button 3. Space
      Button 4 . Shift

My trouble is hyperhq don't recognize the alt key. My thought was to ask rocketlauncher to use an AHK script to change lalt::k
No problem, it works. If I start it manually, Hyperspin recognize my button2 (lalt) as a k.
I change few thing in rocketlauncher asking it to use AHK I made under RL Hyperspin.ahk. I select external in settings, etc.
But its not working, I didn't see the script in my task bar ?
As I used a lot of ahk keymapper for pc Games in this build I don't want to start it with hyperhq at the start of Hyperspin, maybe it will be the mess.

If you have any Idea, thanks guys ?
If you want to have a look to the build

This is my ICade mod using USB encoder for the joystick and buttons with a Dell micro PC in the back end with USB volume knob. Powered by Windows 10, Hyper-Spin, and Rocket-Launcher with Atari 2600, MAME, Nintendo Entertainment System, and Sega Genesis emulators and roms set up. The display is a 4:3 8 inch Neewar monitor which I purchased off of Amazon. I have acrylic glass behind my wooden bezel which I drilled out holes for monitor buttons in both the bezel and glass. All artwork was created by me in Photoshop and printed on adhesive vinyl. The marquee was made with the same acrylic glass and has an 8 inch LED glass enclosure with remote made for small fish aquariums I purchased off of Amazon as well. All wood paneling is MDF material and was cut and drilled via a Black and Decker drill with spade bits and a small Dremel band saw. I mostly used gorilla glue to piece everything together. I used Behr Marquee 2 in 1 primer and paint to paint the MDF material. The Hyper-Spin intro video was created by me using open source and free program Open Shot Video Editing. It took me roughly 2 months to complete from start to finish in between work and my family lol. I am so glad I did it though I am so pleased and happy with the outcome. A match made in Heaven! MY favorite band KISS (original members) and my favorite hobby retro arcade. I absolutely love it!

Hi all.    very new to this, but a bit handy when it comes to building stuff.
A good friend of mine showed me his bartop machin that he was in the process of buillding and after looking at some of the games etc (running on pi) i was wowed.    decided to have a go myself as I was off work over xmas.....so it begins...

Had a look around the web for the kind of machine I wanted to build but nithing really caught my eye so went with a standard kind of cabinet - no sizes or plans, just a little sketch on the back of a used envelope and away we go - only consideration I had to make was the screen size.   Popped to my local currys/pc world - had a look, wanted to have 4k - but whch size?  once its bought you cant go any bigger so I figured its all or nothing so picked up a 43" 4k LG smart tv.
Everything was build around it, so I only had to make sure the inside dimension of the cabinet was 40" had it all built and working in about 3 days - took another 5 days or so adding bits here and there...speakers and subwoofer, foot rail, hidden draw for keyboard /mouse etc.

all worked out great - still learning config of hyperspin but will get there in the end

Cant wait to build the MK2 now....
video below  - compiled from pictures i took while maing the cabinet - all put together by apple iphone lol.
      Jevs Arcade - youtube

Taken this morning after fitting the footrail. pretty much finished now  hope you like!
