mahrio
Hello guys! I started to build my cabinet since February, but just now i have the guts to show how it is becoming First of all i built the control panel, and after that i had the courage to start build something bigger ( I never built anything with wood). I am using a old PC (going to buy a i7 soon), a ATI HD4870, Sony TV (KV-21FS140) and a transcoder to hook all up. Right now i am finishing the build of front kickplate, the marquee holder, installing the motor that will rotate the screen and thinking about art of the marquee and sides. Check my progress: Here its my finished Control panel with RGBs Buttons, a LEDpac64 and 2 Magstik joysticks. My Sony TV decased and installed in the wheel for rotating mechanism. There is my cabinet almost done and the rotating wheel already in place and a pause for some testing Here is the video of the rotating mechanism (its rotating by hand for now). http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=GlQB4JJ6qng Cheers Mahrio EDIT: Added the TV model. PS: Sorry my broken english ehehe.
djordman
Cool idea with the screen in a rotating disc! I am into vertical shooters so I definately like your build!

Deadly
What would make this type of setup the bees knees (bees have knees?) anyway to have a program that sends a pulse to a motor when a vertical game is SELECTED TO START. You have a "race" on the back side with stopping points. You could utilize cherry switches or some other type of momentary switch. When the monitor rotated to the appropriate place it'd disengage the motor. When a horizontal game would be selected to start the program would send a signal to reverse the motor. If i knew how to program I'd do it heh.

Hey Deadly i already figured how to it: i will use LedBlinky to light a up a led when a vertical game its selected and it'll trigger a switch to start the rotation. All this concept was posted some time ago in the Youtube, i am just making my little modifications with the hardware that i found here in Brazil. mahrio
More pictures of the progress. This week we`ll do the paint job in the cabinet. Almost done with the wood structure, right now going to work on fixing the motor and how it'll rotate the wheel. Anyone knows who has skills to make a marquee/sideart art? I would like to send the art of my control panel, talk about how i plan to do in the sides, PAY and he send to me the digital files. This way i can print here locally, avoiding the shipping cost to Brazil. Thanks Edit: Added payment for the art. Mahrio
mahrio
I did a lot of work since the last update. Sorry about the lack of updates, but i was doing a lot of things simultaneously i forgot about this thread I found an artist from the forums to do the art to my cabinet and he did an amazing job. Donnei1979 its amazing doing this thing and i would like to thank him. (He can't pick any art jobs right now, but soon he will be available for some work). Preparing the arcade for the first coat of paint. After the second coat of paint and painting the kickplate / back. Marquee and side artwork by Donnei1979. After applying the artwork and selecting the pieces of motorized rotation. Motor installed, with rubber wheel inside the arcade. T-mold and the control panel on place (not fixed yet). And for the grand finale , video of the rotating wheel working. Just a mechanical test. ALMOST DONE! I will update this post soon everything its complete. What did you think? tkropp17
I may have skipped over it, but are you putting tinted plexi over the front to help hide the mechanisms?
mahrio
Yes its what i am planning to do. I hope it doesn't change the colors too much.
tkropp17
I just did mine this weekend at 35%. The color was fine for me. But, I could still see into the cab. I made a bezel out of construction paper that sits on the plexi and it blacked out the edges around the screen. I don't know how that would work for you, but I'm very pleased and recommend it.
