RetroArch - Sega 32X Broken?

Hi Guys,

I'm having trouble with Sega 32X via the PicoDrive core. Although I have my inputs mapped correctly and "6 buttons" defined in the core options, only 3 buttons are working. 6 buttons do not work.

Can anyone confirm this is a core problem?

Why are you using picodrive for the 32X?

What would you recommend?

To my knowledge, the PicoDrive core is the only RetroArch core that supports 32x. I use Genesis core for the rest

When you load up the game and hit F1 for menu, does it show that your controller is setup as the 6 button. I would double check to make sure the core options for the controller is getting loaded correctly.

I tested it and checked the buttons were mapped and it seems they are although they don't work in game.

Tested with Fusion and they work, but you have to change to the 6 button controller in game (Mortal Combat II) under options, extra controls.

Hang on. Yeah do what Pofo said, Quick menu, Core Options, Input Device 1. Change it to 6 button.

On an unrelated note, I had to RMA my 770 Lightening back to MSI and put in a spare old 8800GT. Damn that thing struggled with RetroArch and 32x. Fan was spinning up and game ran at half speed. Maybe the shaders? :)

Hey Giga,

Already have 6 button enabled via Core Options. That's my point. It doesn't seem to work. Hoping you and a few others can test and report back when you're in front of your machines

PM me. I think it's your config settings. I want you to test mine. Relic fixed a few of his problems today switching to my config

Did you set it in game? Or is the problem every game not just MKII?

Seems to be every game. I believe the core is broken. That's what I'm trying to confirm. I've tested Mortal Kombat and WWF

Check your "retroarch-core-options.cfg" should be in the root or the config folder. You should have an entry in there for pico drive and once changed it should stick.

picodrive_input1 = "6 button pad"
picodrive_input2 = "3 button pad"
picodrive_sprlim = "disabled"
picodrive_ramcart = "disabled"
picodrive_region = "Auto"

Did you actually test the game? I've tried that way and I've tried with both set to 6 button. No different. The top 3 buttons do not work at all. Have you tested in Mortal Kombat?

(:

To be clear, the mapping "sticks" in the core options file and in the emu. It just doesn't do anything.

Yes of course I've tried it in game, Mortal Combat II (I don't have MK I) and a WWF game. All 4 face buttons do something and L1 & L2, where previously they did not.

Where is your core options config, does it change when you edit in game? And have you done an online update of the core ?

Hey Giga,

1. Test on the keyboard as well. The xinput isn't a great test.

2. With xinput, does each button do something unique? I can get a few extra buttons working on the xbox 360 controller with 6 button turned on, but they just repeat the block move onto the shoulders, which doesn't really help

3. I am on 1.2r2 and using the latest core (updated today)

4. Here are relevant my retroarch-core-options:

picodrive_input1 = "6 button pad"
picodrive_input2 = "3 button pad"
picodrive_sprlim = "disabled"
picodrive_ramcart = "disabled"
picodrive_region = "Auto"

I tested with mortal combat before with both 360 controller and keyboard but only had three buttons that worked in both scenarios.

Totally different test but have you tested Genesis with the pico core with 6 button controller? I don't use pico core for Genesis anymore, but I think I got confused initially because I think I had it working in pico for Genesis. I was using SF II Championship edition to test. Not sure that helps u here but I would be curious to see if that works. I am not by my PC to test but I can try that Sunday.

Works perfectly on the Genesis core for Sega Genesis. Sadly, that core isn't compatible with 32X
