Spawk Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I have been slimming down mame for quite some time now. I keep a version of mameui handy to test games from. If I don't think it worthy of my wheel then I simply delete that rom. I then use the "roms only" option to filter in HSHQ. This gives me an option of easily restoring the game just by dropping the rom back in. For most games I am happy with just having the parent rom. In this case I would rather not have puckman show up on the wheel at all but if I delete it, pacman no longer works. Is there an easy way to do this? Is that what the <enabled> tag is for the xml? Can I just set puckman to false and pacman would still show up and work?
Spawk Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 That worked a treat, thanks! The other enabled tag must be for something else.
Metalzoic Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Couldn't you also have just removed the clone info from pac-man? Wait... are you saying that clone roms require the parent rom to exist to work? They use/need/share files from the parent so selecting the parent kills the clones?
Spawk Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 Yeah clones require the parent rom to run. If you delete a parent rom none of the clones will work. Agent47's advice cleanly hid the parent from the wheel without having to delete it. I will probably end up using this on a few more parents as well like Ghox and Ikari Warriors. Both of these have clones with joystick hacks which I need because I have no spinners or rotary joysticks.
craig816 Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 I select filter wheel = Parents only within HyperHQ so that I don't get the same game appearing multiple times on the wheel. However, it has unintended side effects: For example, Q*bert never shows up on the wheel ifI have Parents only selected. Once I turn Parents Only off, Q*bert returns but then so does 4-5 versions of many games. Is there any way to get Q*bert back and still enable Parents Only. I think the parent of Q*bert is Q*berts Cubes since that is the only Q*bert title that appears when Parents Only is selected. Happy New Year and thanks for any tips !
Spawk Posted January 1, 2016 Author Posted January 1, 2016 "Q*bert (US set 1)" is a parent rom in my set. So is Q*berts Cubes so it must be a different game. Maybe you are missing a rom???
craig816 Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 ok, I have qbert.zip file - let me update my database and see if that fixes it. Is there a tool/resource that identifies parent roms from clones ? Thanks.
Spawk Posted January 1, 2016 Author Posted January 1, 2016 Mame itself knows what's what. If you want to change how HS see's them, you can edit the DB: ./HyperSpin/Databases/Mame/mame.xml
