Wheel finder.

do we have a wheel finding tool ?

the way I envision it, it would take a Database xml and using "fuzzy logic" search the media (or any folder) -recursively for images that would "fuzzily" match the <game name> field in the XML.

it would help to go through the thousands of wheel images.

You'd think it shouldn't be that hard to script something. After all the rom renamer from dons hyperspin tools works pretty much in the same way.

That's one thing that's great with HyperVault, since everything is inside one WIP folder we can sync it to local HDD's and do searches with windows or adobe bridge or any other search program. The only downside is that we need to search for every game separately (as far as I know) but this way I get a full show of everything available from a search from every system on HyperVault. Knocked down a system by 100 wheels by just searching at some point (think it was game gear or sms).

That's what I always do on projects I try to get going, search for every game in the database manually, takes time sure but saves time for all the other wheel creators.

So for our DOS setup, we need to individually search 5195 games?

I was doing the same for the Spectrum. I copied all the wheels I had to a folder was doing individual searches but gave up after about 100 or so. It's way way too much work.

We will need to do the same for the MSX set.

I'm breaking my head using powershell.

I can parse the XML reading the description..now I want to use the output as input for a file query... it's not going well and google isn helping me. apparently searching for files locally using data from an XML isnt all that common..
I refuse, REFUSE to go through 5000+ titles manually.

Yeah, manually, that's what I'm saying...have done it for PSX, SMS, GBC, GG so far...and yes...it takes a lot of time and your eyes start to bleed lol.

If someone can come up with a way to automate it I would be very happy, but I believe it might be a pretty big challenge, but some kind of fuzzy match would probably work.

Fuzzy name matchers exist; I've used one on Linux from time to time. You still need to check all the results though, because false matching occurs.

Pick the game names out of a HS database for a system (like MS-DOS for instance) and then select a folder with files locally on your HDD to do a fuzzy match from every file in that folder and give you the ability to pick out any matches and copy them to a folder. If there are multiple matches you would be presented with a UI to choose the right match or none. Pretty much what Tur-Matcher does. The problem there is that Tur-Matcher removes all attributes and there are often multiple games with the same name but for different regions for instance. I have used Tur-Matcher many times, but it doesn't always work.

Yeah, like phulshof said...we still need to verify each and every one manually, but it still would save tremendous amounts of time since you will never get a match for every singel game in the database.

I'm talking to Turranius and I'm testing his Tur-matcher app ....apparently this should work.. so it's now loading up the XML and it will start plowing through the imges of Duagan's commodore 64 wheels collection when it's done loading 50000 lines of code.

The problem with it is like I said, it removes too much of the game names. It only become a problem on systems that has games with same name, it then just sais it found multiple games and closes. Maybe not a problem for many systems, but for disc based systems like PSX where there is multi disc games it becomes a real problem.

Well the tru-matcher did it's work.. and to my surprise it matched 624 wheels from commodore 64. and the matches seem to hold up..

All that is left is to check if these match the boxes
