TheMadHatter Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Ok, so after i get systems all set up in my HyperSpin/RocketLauncher set up i like to take a bit of time and actually play that system lol. So after getting GameBoy's all set up. I was playing GBA. One of the Pokemon games i think Emerald to be exact, but when i save the game it doesnt let me load it back up when i Reload the game through HS or RL. When i run VisualBoyAdvance-M by itself im able to save the game then load the game just fine when i close and re open. What really kind of baffles me though is that the game is saved and still is saved when i run the emulator by itself. but when i open it up through my HyperSpin the game save isnt there, i can literally go BACK to just opening the game through the emulator and its still there. So its not like deleting my saves its just not retaining any information that saves the game.Just wondering if i have any pros that can help out with this or maybe ppl had the same issues and found out why. Posted this on RLauncher.com as well just because i think it has something to do with RLauncher more than HyperSpin
Spawk Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 I cannot speak of GBA but my PS2 behaves just like this. It is because RL has a feature that will create a memory card for each game. And of course it doesn't store them in the same place the emu does. Check the global module settings in RL for GBA. Maybe it has something similar to this. Sent from my SGH-I337M using Tapatalk
Avar Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 That sounds familiar. I think you're onto something.
ninja2bceen Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Yes in the global ini you can select your save and load buttons and location for your save Advance the cause to 100%. http://hyperbase.hyperspin-fe.com/ Planet Geekdom, Subscribe for Tutorials! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdcby-s2GwriaOHGmVC2vGA?sub_confirmation=1&app=desktop
SkyHighGam3r Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 This is good to know in "Advance" Hahaha But seriously, I have been playing games to make sure they run, but the only save's I've verified as working are my PS2 saves (I use the directory function on PCSX2 instead of memory cards)I also ran into a few games that died on me once gameplay actually started... Every time I see the finish line, I fall back another hundred yards haha.Anyway, I will test this out on my setup and see how it goes. I'm also using the standalone VBA because there is no RetroArch core that will autodetect for GB/C/A. (Though someone at the libretro forums told me that the mGBA core is getting this function soon (woot!)
TheMadHatter Posted March 20, 2016 Author Posted March 20, 2016 Ill def try this out when i get back home. Thanks for the heads up
TheMadHatter Posted March 22, 2016 Author Posted March 22, 2016 So when i go to Global>Modules>VisualBoyAdvance-M.ahk>Edit Module Settings The only settings that pull up are these. Fullscreen: <Default> Video Mode: <Default> fsWidth: (Blank) fsHeight: (Blank) Cant seem to find any thing about memory cards
Avar Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Ok I tested mine and it had the same behaviour. Had me totally stumped for a few minutes but then I remembered most save states are stored with the rom path. If you make a save state when running one of these roms outside of RocketLauncher, you can find that save's .sav and .sgm files in the associated rom folder with the same name as the game. What's causing your issue is that you have 7z enabled, meaning RocketLauncher is extracting the zip to your temp path. When you make a save state after extracting to and running via your temp path, the .sav and .sgm are created in your temp path, not in your rom folder like normal. As such, that save data is wiped when you exit the game and the system cleans up your temp folder. In summary, for saves to work through HyperSpin/RocketLauncher for VBA-M set "7Z Enabled" to false for systems using it. Alternatively, you can run uncompressed roms but disabling 7z for VBA-M systems is fine.
SkyHighGam3r Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 That's excellent news. I havn't remembered to test this on my own setup as of yet, but I always run uncompressed cartridge roms so I'm in the clear
Spawk Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Just checked mine as well. It seems mine is saving to: C:\Users\JAY\AppData\Local\wxvbam when launched through RL. I am not really satisfied with it saving to my system drive though! If my system crashes, I will probably loose all those saves. I tried changing the StateDir= line of the vbam.cfg but it didn't take. Anyone who knows how to change locations, please share.

Ok so just Set 7z to false(for the VBA-M not global) and extract all my roms for VBA-M Systems (GB/GBC/GBA)? ^^^ it worked though thankfully it was just those systems for now lol didnt lose too much space
