THK Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Because lol I guess xD ..........................back with a vengeance........................
Avar Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I've been wanting something like that but I also don't want to sacrifice the feel of the authentic controls by replacing them, which I'm guessing they had to do with this.
SkyHighGam3r Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 That's impressive but a few things stick out to me like a sore thumb. The hardware is highly customized, but the theme-set is still the default....It has systems that I wonder if it can even emulate. I don't see a device that size emulating the dreamcast effectively. There's no way it has enough buttons to handle a playstation game.I get that it's probably just a proof of concept, and it's quite impressive. Like I said those just stick out to me big time.
THK Posted March 22, 2016 Author Posted March 22, 2016 Just like not turning off the demanding animations and swf background ..........................back with a vengeance........................

SkyHighGam3r Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Some people like the default themes and have no desire to change to something else.... I'm not saying there's anything WRONG with the default themes. I just find it odd that you'd take the time to customize the hardware so much, but not do anything with the presentation of the actual program.
wesfranks Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I've been wanting something like that but I also don't want to sacrifice the feel of the authentic controls by replacing them, which I'm guessing they had to do with this. The ones I've seen use a hacked nes/snes controller for the controls. Dremel the pcb into three sections at strategic points (D-pad, buttons, start/select) and reconnect the traces with solder and small gauge wire. Pinouts to GPIO headers for Raspberry Pi or even USB in this case. Has an accurate feel as long as the pcb sections are secured adequately (usually by massive quantities of hot glue). I have wanted to do a project like this for a while, probably off the Pi. Looking at two Gameboys at this moment, including my original from when I was young but they are still working so I wouldn't dare. Hacked 3DS will have to serve for now. Probably wouldn't have used HyperSpin. Was anyone else expecting a big HDMI cable to hanging off the back when he flipped it?

wesfranks Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 SkyHighGam3r, sorry. As an example. Project Page: https://learn.adafruit.com/pigrrl-raspberry-pi-gameboy/overview SNES PCB Cutting: https://learn.adafruit.com/pigrrl-raspberry-pi-gameboy/buttons Button Wiring: https://learn.adafruit.com/pigrrl-raspberry-pi-gameboy/wiring-buttons Ribbon cable connector connects to GPIO headers on Pi. https://superpiboy.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/raspberry_pi_circuit.jpg Since the buttons and circuitry is from a SNES controller, it should have the same feel (barring any lag on inputs). By the way, there are better housings now and this http://store.kitsch-bent.com/product/common-ground-dmg-button-pcb which duplicates the hack detailed above. But then you run into issues with the feel of the buttons like what Avar was talking about. BTW#2, you should see what Gigapig did with a 360 controller. It was sick. (Not in that way)
