SkyHighGam3r Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Hey guys,So now that I finally have SSF running properly (Thanks to you fine folks and all the help you give ) I have started setting up my Saturn wheel and I'm starting to see there are some things that are running better in one, and others that I can't get to run in another. So since it looks like I'll need to use a steady combination of these 2 emulators I'm trying to figure out which one should be primary, and the other the alternate. That way I'm not putting over half of my game list as 'alternate'.I tried checking out the compatibility lists, but Yabuse's core list is horribly incomplete. (It even admits it on the libretro wiki)So I'm wondering if anyone else has gone through enough of Saturn to see which one is the better of the bunch? I know both are far from perfect.
ChrisKant Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 there was some stuff here mentioned like 5 or so version of SSF plus yabuse for the best experience so far. there was also a new fork of yabause out there which should be better than the old one.
SkyHighGam3r Posted March 30, 2016 Author Posted March 30, 2016 I read there was one making progress on the android platform, but sadly it wasn't on windows. Or did you mean something else?I'm using the latest revision of SSF and the Yabuse core for RetroArch.
Aorin Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 It's hard to imagine a Saturn emulator other than SSF, it's the only one that is solid enough, the only yabause build that I'm really seeing some evolution is the uoYabause for Android, it's getting a good performance boost. If SSF were an open source emulator, we'd have a really good core for Retroarch or GIT nightly builds with better and better features, the curious part of SSF is that it was developed by one guy only. SkyHighGam3r Posted March 30, 2016 Author Posted March 30, 2016 SSF is fantastic, but so far RetroArch's Yabuse core has 2 advantages I've come across. The first, is the obvious shader's. So awesome. So I'd LIKE to use it whenever possible just for that. The second is the ability to use an HLE BIOS. I couldn't get Astal to boot for the life of me in SSF, but it boots great in RetroArch 'cause I can turn off the BIOS.Of course, this means the only way I get to see the great BIOS screen is by using SSF... Which is a big deal to me lol.
Aorin Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Yeah, the shaders are a good deal, it also would be great if SSF or a (farrr improved Yabause or Retroarch core) could also handle internal resolution up scaling, this would be really awesome for o our HD monitors. For SSF look less pixelated, I use scanlines, it makes the game looks better, for years, SSF has proved to be solid regarding Saturn emulation, I played the translated Shining Force trilogy entirely without problems, used a lot of save states, load states, fast forward, etc, not a single frame drop. I die Look up The Form is Named Devmiyax Yabause https://github.com/devmiyax/yabause This is Based on th4 Android ouyabause
SkyHighGam3r Posted March 30, 2016 Author Posted March 30, 2016 So this is a Windows version? How does this github site work? I tried to download NullDC from this site (just last night actually lol) and had to get it from Simply Austin's youtube instead lol.
JoyStickKilla Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Set all to SSF. Decide you want to play a game...... it runs like crap.....try it with yabause......if it runs better then set it as the emulator in RL.

How did you add scanlines? For the emulator scanlines to look good you can't make it stretch. You need to maintain the default aspect ratio which means black lines on the side for a lot of games. You also can't use a bezel because it needs to run in window mode and SSF only has 3x window size so you need a huge bezel that covers most of the screeen and only leaves a small window for SSF. I tried SweetFX but again, for it to look good it's needs to use the default game resolution and the Saturn used a lot of different resolutions. You need to manually change SSF settings for each individual game everytime you play it. I haven't been able to get Reshade to work with it either. If there was a way to have an overlay or Sub-Zero's CRT png overlay file used for the Atomiswave and Model 2 bezels that would be great but from what I know you need bezel enabled meaning window mode again.
SkyHighGam3r Posted March 31, 2016 Author Posted March 31, 2016 So it seems like the trend here is that SSF is a more compatible emulator than Yabuse, If I'm reading all this input correctly.Has anyone else tried Devmiyax Yabause?(I didn't have a chance to check it out last night)
Styphelus Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Did anyone get Reshade to work with SSF? I just get a black screen.

I just check the scanlines option and then it works, I think that not all Saturn games run at the same internal resolution, some games will stretch the whole screen, some will have black bars, if you read the notes under the module for SSF, it says that the bezel for SSF won't always fit perfectly because of this internal resolution difference from a game to another.
