Ravage Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 I have a 2 player arcade setup running hyperspin and I was wondering if there is was to make one of the buttons a player select button. So if I am playing NBA jam player 2 can select to player 3 to play versus instead of co-op, or if I am playing Simpsons arcade player 1 doesn't have to be Marge all the time.
kylecp1979 Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Not to sure what your asking? Don't you have to have more then 2 players to play 3 or 4 player games? I would say just use some xbox 360 controllers for the 3rd and 4th player.

I think certain 4 player games you actually had to select which player you wanted to play with.. the simpsons may have been one of those games. ummm, not exactly sure but shouldn't the option for button controls been in the mame (tab) menu? where you can assign which buttons do what.
BATTLEDONKEY Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Some of the 4 player cabinets (and 6 player for x-men) don't allow u to pick which character u want, it's all dependent on which set of controls u are standing at. I believe most of these games also have a 2 player only clone that allows u to select which player u want to control, and should solve ur issue. Edit the mame.xml to use the clone instead of the parent

(select as in selecting which controller/player to be)

There's no clone of NBA jam which allows this, unfortunately. However(!) there is a clone for the simpsons specific to 2-player cabinets which allows you to select your players. The same may be said for TMNT.
BATTLEDONKEY Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 I could swear I remember seeing 2 player nba jam cabinets back in the day also. If that's the case n there is no 2 player clone for nba jam, and most likely NFL blitz and other similar games, an option would be to set up the controls as player 3 instead for the individual games only. Hit tab, then inputs for this game, then clear all the player 2 inputs and set them all up for player 3 instead (I.e. player 3 coin, player 3 start, etc.)

Make Player 1 and 3 share the same controls. Same goes for Player 2 and 4. That way you could have 1+2, 1+4, 3+2, 3+4! Just have to find a way to select players 3 and 4. Might have to add two more buttons to your setup!
