Hello, I got this system from a friend, its a stand up machine and it has hyperspin on it, 2 different drives one is 1tb and one is labeled 4tb. the 4tb one has an outdated 1.3 version, I would like to go to 1.33 then 1.4 and beyond, but not sure how to upgrade what I have without messing it up. is there an install procedure to keep it how it is but upgrade the core to 1.4 or newer or is this more complex?

so this would be my recommendation... especially since you are new to this. Don't upgrade haha.  No that doesn't mean don't get up to the new version I mean leave your current hyperspin install as it is.  Start a new one! In a different folder.  Do it with the latest hyperspin version and the latest rocket launcher version.  Then you can start to copy over your media and settings from the other folder but leave them intact... MAKE SURE YOU ACTUALLY COPY NOT MOVE files.  Two reasons for doing this.

1. you leave your working version in tact while you work on your new one and if you mess up... pretty easy to start over.

2.  You will learn how to use hyperspin and rocket launcher.  No better way to learn than start from scratch.  Once you have it all up and running the way you want then you can delete the older version.

I literally just went through this myself and I consider myself to be quite educated when it comes to hyperspin / rocket launcher.  I'm still glad I went this route and still haven't completely gotten rid of my old install.  Still find stuff here and there that I don't like and think ok how did I have that on my old setup and go to look back.

Ok, my trouble is that both drives are full, to copy the roms over in order to make it work in another folder would take more space than I have, is there a way to point it to the roms folder in the old directory? I think I have enough space to create a new folder without roms

You don't have to move the ROMs. You can set the ROM path in rocketlauncher. These days it's recommended that the ROMs be located outside of the Hyperspin directory because of limitations to how long command line strings can be.

I agree with what is being said, don't disable your old hyperspin until you are sure everything is working with the new one the way you want it. It can take quite a while to set hyperspin up, even if you have all the media you want and everything you need.

This... I sure wasn't making copies of all my roms. Heck you can even make an mklink and point hyperspin media folder in your new install to the old one. I do this for a lot of my "classic" systems and point the media folders at my mame media folders so I don't have multiple copies of things taking up space.
