some newbie questions about arcade controls.

my arcade cabinet (hardware part) has 2x6 player buttons, and player1 start button, player2 start button and a "coin" button. currently my hyperspin setup is more or less done with mame and a few other consoles. since hyperspin functions on mainly a esc/enter and most emulators need the esc/enter button, is there anyway i can get by without adding additional buttons on the hardware side.

heres what i have tried. i've tried making p1 start & coin button to become esc. in mame/hyperHQ i can use it as per norm but am unsure how to do so in retroarch/pcsx2. when i try holding down coin button to function as "esc", it works decently but i cant get out of the mame game after entering it. also the joytokey program seems to auto shutdown without any reason.

so im wondering which is the easiest way for a newbie hyperspin user which doesnt need to add more buttons on my hardware. please help and sorry for the essay :(

I'm new to this site and i'm sure there,s an answer already written about this..  I have finally completed my arcade machine. now trying to set up the joysticks and buttons.  Im useing a Xin-Mo Dual arcade modual via USB to hook up everything (not really Important)..

Iv been trying to get joytokey to work but have nothing but problems with it always reset  after an exit or a restart. (buttons wont stay, like there's config files colliding or something)

Iv downloaded the hyperspin startup script but dont really understand it

just looking for some answers or suggestions

You can configure a button as a "Option" button. so pressing Option button + other button you can have more buttons.

the tankstick config curse strikes again.

you can map any button in HyperHQ to be your "Load" (Enter) button,

RL has a function where you can use  a combination of buttons

button x + button y = Exit,  (it does not need to be mapped to the ESC key)

it does not matter what emulator you load,  button x + button y will always be your exit key. As long as RL is running (aka you launched an emulator through HS)

Open RLUI

select the Global System

Click on General Settings Tab

Click on Controller sub Tab

look for the Emulators section

find the Exit emulator key options

click on the re map buttons

add your Coin+P1  condition

so using this method after i enter a "mame" game to exit the mame game i just use coin+p1 and i will get back to my hyperspin wheel/menu right? will try it out cheers~

yeah i think i found it!

edit : ok so its fine to exit mame like this. however in other emulators (NES/SNES 1 of this), P1 start = pause so im unable to exit it since it pauses before i can exit. also for PCSX2 (Playstation2), P1 start and Coin/Select seems like it reboots the game. do i go to all my emulators and change the settings there?

i've tried holding to escape but it doesnt seem to work for me. not sure if its my keyboard settings or what though. like when i hold down "5" it types 5555555 automatically. it doesnt act like its holding down rather it acts like its pressing multiple times.

ok new problem lol. it works for all emulators except the playstation 2 emulator/pcsx2.

im using the hold function whereby when i hold "coin button" for 2 seconds it esc the emulator. however for pcsx2 it doesnt seem to work. any help is appreciated :D

i dont have that many setups in my system. namely mame, a few nintendo consoles, a few sega consoles and playstation2.

it seems to me the only way to leave pcsx2 to go back to hyperspin wheel is by esc. any other methods dont seem to work. anyone has got other methods working please help~

Setting an emulator exit key in rlui as described above worked fine for me. I set it to be back + start on my xbox 360 controller. Only thing is you can't turn off the ui in pcsx2 or else it won't work. So make sure in rlui that you aren't turning off pcsx2's ui.

exactly where do i do that? in my RLUI i set the keys to exit emulator under the global tab while the rest of my emulators (including pcsx2) exit using global settings.

im setting up all my emulator keys to follow mame currently. the only real problem i have now is exiting out of pcsx2/playstation 2. the only way i seem to be able to exit is by the "esc" key. for the rest of my emulators i can esc using "player 1 start & player 2 start" aka keyboard buttons "1 and 2"

getting no real progress on this at the moment.

all my emulators can run smoothly through hyperspin if i just use the default "esc" button. but my arcade cabinet (hardware) has no addition button to function as an esc button. (2 player 6 button with 1 coin button and 2 start buttons)

If you use 2 buttons to exit out of your emulator in RL It helps to hold one of the keys down then press the other one.

For some reason it doesn't always register the 2 buttons at the same time.

still same problems. works for everything but pcsx2.

tried a few different 2 button combinations but makes no difference. have not even tried it on the cabinet but just trying it out on my keyboard.
