Martin0037 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 SOLVED!! See at bottom... This has prob been covered so sorry if it has... but has anyone had this problem - After turning on the high score support in mame itself or mame.ini then load up hyperspin and load say PAC man. After game over appears and the high score is on screen.... when I press exit to go back to hyperspin menu everything feeezes. I then have to reboot the PC. Anyone know what that is all about? I have tried this with and without the high hiscore.dat file present in the mame folder Do I need to set the path in mame itself for the high score directory or is this something else I'm doing wrong? Im using mameuifx.159 no nag+highscore Coicidentally.... not sure if this is related or not but earlier I was changing the settings on total carnage in the F2 menu, then when trying to exit it froze up just the same as above.
griffin518 Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 This is really weird, and not something that I think has anything to do with high score... something else is going on. Have you tried another version of MAME or MAMEUIFX? I could give you a copy of 0.160 to try, as I don't think there were really ROM differences between the two. You might also want to run a memory test on your machine, it's a distant possibility that you've got a hardware issue.
Martin0037 Posted December 2, 2016 Author Posted December 2, 2016 Yes I've tried a few different versions but I've stuck with this one (mameuifx.159 no nag, hi score) as it seems to be the best. I looked in the hi folder and it had loads of previous data in there so the version I was using before... think it was mameui155 but I got rid as it was raw input must have worked with the high score but can't say for sure. As soon as I turn the hi score on in mame.ini it just freezes at game exit. I've set the hi score path and it seems to be set correct in mame itself so no idea. It also does it like I mentioned when changing in game F2 settings too, so I set the correct path in mame to the cfg folder under the drop down n directories within mame and that seemed to solve that hasnt worked with the hi score path though Yeah could try a different version,. As long as is direct input no nag etc... Do the uifx versions require the hiscore.dat file in the mame folder (downloaded from mame world) for it to work? As this version I'm using is meant to have hi score support? thanks for for your help mate ?
phulshof Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 No issues with 0.180 myself...Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
gigapig Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 The only things I can suggest other than getting the latest version of Arcade64 (formerly mameuifx) which uses a plug in for hi score, is this. From a certain revision mameuifx did not need the hi score plug in, adding it would corrupt your score and maybe crash mameuifx? ? You can check this by looking at the .hi files and if they are 0 bytes then yours are corrupt.
Martin0037 Posted December 2, 2016 Author Posted December 2, 2016 Ok thanks. It's definely not writing any files into the hi folder as it's empty. I emptied the folder originally thinking something may be corrupt in there from the previous mame version I used but non has appeared in there since. I have everything backed up on a different drive so could check and see how big the files are but there were loads and I'm pretty sure more than 0 bytes. It definetly crashed when the hiscore.dat file was present so I've removed it.
Martin0037 Posted December 2, 2016 Author Posted December 2, 2016 After I discovered it was doing the same thing when I changed any settings in the F2 menu of a rom (total carnage at the time) so I made sure the directory was correct in mame and pointing to the cfg file. It wasn't so I changed it. I then went back in and changed the total carnage setting again in F2, then looked in the cfg folder and the total carnage file had today's date on it so I know it's wrote that file and definetly saved the settings i changed, so that works fine now.
gigapig Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 You don't normally need to set paths for Hi. ini. etc as long as they reside in the mame root. Make sure your hiscore.dat is in a "dats" folder.
Martin0037 Posted December 2, 2016 Author Posted December 2, 2016 Right! It wasnt so maybe that's the problem... I'll have a look and let you know. Thanks
Martin0037 Posted December 2, 2016 Author Posted December 2, 2016 Right... can I just start by saying (and sorry for swearing) But you guys on here are the dogs bollocks!!!!! You're awesome! SOLVED! Thanks gigapig ? There was no dats folder. Created one, chucked the dat file in it... sorted. Everything works. Just played wonderboy, put name in at the end, exited, went back - my score and name still there. Checked the hi folder and wonder boy file is now there. Thats made my day that. Thanks again.
