Tool for creating custom wheels

Having got Hyperspin up and running on my PC I now have the task of going through and culling the collection of games. Longer term I would like to build a cabinet and it doesn't seem practical to have every game for every system on it.

Part of the culling involved wanting to make custom wheels for the Street Fighter and Tekken collections. I already have the games, images, themes and videos but manually creating the XML file and dragging and dropping all the roms and media files seemed like way too much work. So instead I've decided to build a tool to do it.

The tool will read all of your XML files (databases) and present you with a searchable and filterable list of every game across your Hyperspin install. You can then select the games you want from the list, give the new wheel a name and it will create the folders and database as well as copy all of the media files to the correct places. This just leaves you the job of setting up emulators per game in RocketLauncher.

Is this something anyone else would find useful?

I'm going to finish it regardless but a throwaway script that I can run once versus an application that's user friendly are two very different beasts.

Also having seen @thatman84 thread here I guess it's worth just checking that this tool hasn't already been built and lost in the bowels of the forum.

This does sound useful for PC setups.

probably worth pursuing

i dont one think I have seen anything that lists games across multiple xml's and also nothing that copies out the relevant media to a new wheel. Hyper tools or Hyperspin Checker would be worth looking into as those have fairly large feature sets.

I believe Hypermint has this functionality already, you can check the thread on the RL forum for Hypermint. Not sure if any others do as well, there are a bunch of these types of applications.

Thanks for the heads up @agent47. I'm still new to this so I'm sure there's a bunch of tools I've not come across.

I think I'll keep tinkering anyway and if I get something worth releasing I'll update this thread.
