i dont want to spend more than 40 bucks
I don't think that's very realistic. I'm assuming you have an LCD monitor. If you have a CRT, you might be able to find an old act labs gun or one of its knockoffs. Here's a $75 XCM Storm gun on ebay, I know nothing about them but the sensor looks identical to Aimtrak: http://www.ebay.com/itm/XCM-XFPS-Storm-Light-Gun-Controller-for-Windows-PC-/251308965948?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a832e803c

I said the same when I got 1 aimtrak and then realized that most arcade machines in mame need to be calibrated for the gun as well as calibrating it on the computer. After I found that out I ordered a second gun because I wasn't going to go through that 2 times for each game hell no. So If you have any desire to play 2 player just order 2 and if you want the black ones get them while they last in stock because I ended waiting several weeks to get my second gun. He restocks on a Monday if you get them from ultimarc.

Another vote for Ultimarc. The work very well in my cabinet and really complete the experience. Well constructed and great support. Worth the money.

I have the Aimtrak ready to in my cabinet when I start building but does anyone know if the sensor works behind clear perspex or not, I am guessing it won't do well having something altering the signals but wasn't sure?

Thanks

Clear Perspex should be ok

I have a fairly dark tint and sprayed the boarder with enamel, taped off light sensor bar area.

You should be able to crank the IR setting from 3-5

Also my screen is on a tilt an calibrated without to much hassle.

I used arcade guns. Uses the Aimtrack, but different gun layout. It is awesome for Time Crisis- the ducking to reload can be handled by the ring finger.
Which arcade guns? How do they use Aimtrak?

Edit, got it: http://www.arcadeguns.com/

I think the original Aimtrak shells look better, but the price is right for the arcadeguns dual kit. I wonder if they can take the recoil kit?

After reading this Im gonna order one of those XCMs from hong kong. Quick question, will it work with nullDC, SSF or ePSX?

Im about to install my Aimtracks into my cab. Let me ask you this. Where is your I/R sensor and did you mount it at the same angle as your monitor or is it at a 90?

I can't speak for miamisurf, but my cab monitor is on a slight angle (not as steep as the one pictured though) and I made a small bracket to keep it secure, mounted on top of the monitor, at the same angle of the monitor. never had any setup or accuracy issues. I also re-sprayed my plexi so the black border goes around the light sensor as well now.

Thats awesome! I too have my monitor on a slight angle, about 15 degrees and was hoping I could mount the sensor on the same plain. Thank you for yo

So which do you think is better, arcadeguns.com which uses a ultimarc ir sensor... or buying a aimtraks gun off ultimarc directly? How do those 2 guns compare, also what as the feeling to these gun been like, is it close to the old crt guns in response time, or does it still fill like you are dragging around a cursor on the screen like a light pen.

I have 2 aimtraks. They are to me anyway very responsive. Money well spent imho when I get to use them. Not at all like a lightpen and doesnt feel like I am dragging a cursor jumps right over to where I am pointing. I have taken out endless hordes of monsters and saved ny a bunch of times. Good luck.

I second the responsiveness of the Aimtrak. No cursor dragging feeling, very quick and a ridiculous amount of fun.

Quick story, so I have a buddy who was a huge arcade-rat back in the day. He just finished his budget build bartop and I remember when I built my full cabinet he was all for it but when I bought the light guns he said I was obsessed and maybe went too far and if I wanted to have a shooting game, I was better off buying one. Well he came by the other day for the first time seeing my cabinet and loved it. we played a bunch of games and he was really impressed with what I did and what I used and the overall feel of the cabinet. Scrolling through the games, he picked one not realizing it was a gun game and forgot I had aimtrak guns. He went to exit but before he could I whipped out the guns. he had a skeptical look on his face too. 2 seconds in you could not wipe the smile off his face. he was so impressed with how they felt and acted. We ended up playing gun games for 2 more hours and he went home and bought a set for himself the next day.

I can only speak for the aimtrak but I think you will not be disappointed.
