ShaneMoneyBaby Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 I'm a noob who recently downloaded the frontend HyperSpin project. It's been snatched over 200 times since it was posted 2 weeks ago, so I'm thinking there may be more like me coming here for help. I've been tirelessly trying to get this thing to work. The comments say "just plug 'n play" and "it's old but works great", but I haven't found anything to be easy. I'm hooking this up on my old computer (Vista 32 bit). After not getting the roms to work, I've hooked up RocketLauncher. Days of configuring later I'm still at a loss. Can anyone tell me if the MAME emulator included in this (o.137.0.0) is working for them? My next move is update MAME, but then I'm not sure if the roms in this pack will work. Included is a picture of my error message. A million thanks to anyone who can walk me through this.
ci2own Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 Is not easy to setup RocketLauncher and HyperSpin at the beginning (is not so hard either), but is a mandatory step. If you know how it works you will be able to solve any problem in the future. Download the latest MAME 0.184 set and if have problems just ask here.
ShaneMoneyBaby Posted April 7, 2017 Author Posted April 7, 2017 Thank you all for the replies. The latest MAME did in fact work for what I believe is a majority of the games. There was some false advertising from the source where I got this.
32assassin Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 given that you are running a vista 32 bit machine, the latest version of Hypespin might not be best for you. is your computer over 10 years old?
rastan Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 that thing is a good starting point if you can't find any media but other than that as others have said it's old and crap... outdated. when I first started setting up my hyperspin.. I didn't really know where to find a lot of media files and I download that thing and used some of the media... in fact I may even have some of it on my HS for certain systems but overall most of the media I used from that was changed once I figured out where to get the media from... the biggest thing that thing did for me was give me a lot of video files even in the low quality they were videosnaps so I didn't care if they were'nt HQ. I already had my HS setup so I never used it for anything else... other than stealing the media files from it.
ShaneMoneyBaby Posted April 8, 2017 Author Posted April 8, 2017 Everything you guys have said is true. It's been a good starting point, but without RocketLauncher, RetroArch, the latest MAME, and HyperSpin 1.4 the thing just wouldn't work. The wheels and media look pretty good. About 90% of the games work, from what I can tell so far. I was a complete novice 2 weeks ago when i d/l'ed this. The description said it was fully updated and ready to use. I had no idea I wouldn't be showering or sleeping anymore until I hooked it up! haha, I've come a long way since then thanks to this community and Simply Austin's videos on youtube. Those vids are 2 years old and already showing their age. Amazing how this old tech project keeps evolving. I'm rambling now, but thanks for adding me to the club! I'm pretty sure I've started something here.
