Martin0037 Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 I've suddenly experienced a problem where for no reason when I boot up all the settings in mame have been reset to the default mame controls. This is a pain as I then have to launch a game and in the tab menu go through ALL the controls inc light guns and set everything back up again. Nightmare! Ive got no idea why this is happening or how to stop it. Been fine for months, No changes to my pc or anything. Pc is bare bones with only led blinky running in background. I'm using win7 64bit. Only using mame with hyperspin, no othe remulators. Think my mame version is mameuifx.159 64 When this happened last night, I reset all the controls which took ages, then rebooted, then when I selected a game all I got was the "database not found warning" from rocketlauncher I then had to open rlui and found that the default frontend tab had changed and so had the emulator path. anyone else had this trouble? Thanks all.
Creezz67 Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Try setting your buttons first, then go to your Mame emulator, then cfg folder then default.cfg Right click default.cfg and then properties and click read only then apply and ok This should then save your controls. If you want to change them in future remember to untick read only first. Hope it helps
Martin0037 Posted August 7, 2017 Author Posted August 7, 2017 Any idea if this is mame that causes this or is it a hyperspin or rocketlauncher issue? Thanks.
Martin0037 Posted August 10, 2017 Author Posted August 10, 2017 Thanks. Seems to have worked. Nothing's gone wrong yet...
Martin0037 Posted August 12, 2017 Author Posted August 12, 2017 Question- should just set just the default.cfg to read only or all the others? The other game cfg files that I've changed controls in, or don't these tend to get reset?
Creezz67 Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 no, just the default.cfg seems to do the trick Glad it worked as I know myself how annoying it can be
gigapig Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 The alternative is to create a controller config file which then goes in the "ctrlr" folder, you then add the info to you mame.ini. It's a little tricky to set up but it does not get overwritten like the default .cfg, What cataclysm67 suggested is a the easier option and I don't thing the game specific configs get overwritten but it might be wise to back them up if you have modified them.
Martin0037 Posted August 13, 2017 Author Posted August 13, 2017 Yes I've made a duplicate copy of the cfg folder just in case and I've also changed the specific game cfg's to read only also as I've changed quite a lot of them. Everything's ok so far, I'll see what happens. Can't believe something so simple can save an absolute headache of a job setting everything back up. Done it sooooo many times now it's ridiculous. Been ok all week so I'm pretty sure it's worked. Thnaks guys.
Martin0037 Posted August 16, 2017 Author Posted August 16, 2017 Seems fine. But, every now and then hyperspin seems to freeze? I mean the controls just don't respond even though hyperspin is running i.e. The wheels spinning, demo videos running etc but have to restart the pc to get the controls back. Only does it now and then and I've left it running alone for well over 10 hours, gone back to it and it's fine... yet sometimes it freezes? Weird.
