The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

Hi, and of course Newbie setup issues :)

Hi everyone,

Ok so I am in the process of moving from GameEX to Hyperspin. As you see, I am committed to the product by donating and becoming a Platinum member :) I have been watching many of the tutorial videos and reading the forums for some issues I have been having but can't really seem to pin it down. I am having a common problem where, my emulators work fine outside of HyperSpin/Hyperlaunch, but they do not run when you press Start in Hyperspin.

I followed the RocketLauncher setup guide posted, setup my paths as show, rom audit shows all my games fine, and the emulators work outside of Hyperspin, and Hyperlaunch by itself also launches the emulator and roms fine.

Here's my problem. I see a lot of threads on this issue, and I cannot tell what is an "old" fix, or, being a total newbie to Hyperspin, I can't quite follow the logic of some of the fixes you pros post yet :).

So my questions are. What should I do? My log files don't seem to be very helpful, I have watched djvj1's general videos online (Thank you for doing that that helped some other issues :)) But, at the end of the day I am still stuck reading page after pages of problems in the forum, all to find at the end I don't quite understand the solution, or its a fix for an older version.

So could anyone possibly point me in the correct direction? of if they have been through this pain, maybe give me some advice?

Thank you in advance :)

Hi Yarselph, welcome to the forum.

Looks like you maybe set something incorrectly in HyperHQ, which is the set up utility for Hyperspin. What particular emulator are you having trouble with?

You may have missed a step, perhaps put a check in a box.

This is my Mame setup as it is in HyperHQ.

Thanks for the reply. That looks like mine. Here are some shots of my HyperHQ and Hyperlaunch settings (I am showing the Model2 settings but the same problem is happening in Mame, etc):

That is correct. It basically just sits there when you press enter, like as if you didn't select the game. I did not remap the keys because I am still in process of setting up the system, so Enter is still mapped as player one start.

Looking at the log files again, It seems to "think" its launching the games. I don't see any errors in the Hyperspin log or the hyperlaunch log.

Could it possibly be running in the background already. Have you checked Task Manager to see if you have the Emulator running...? If so that can cause the game to not load or do anything... Also, make sure there are no HLHQ tasks scripts running as you will not be able to open anything. Simple and stupid but can be over looked...

darkskwirl: Nope, I am with you on that that was one of my thoughts too, never saw anything and even tried right after a reboot. :(

gigapig: Ok so I turned that off, and, weirdly, now both Mame amd model2 roms launch, but now I have some messy wheels :) Strange??

Thats quite normal especially with mame, the wheel is showing everything from the Mame xml, I usually just have the "Parents only" and sometimes "Roms Only" checked. Having those checked will only show Parent Roms (no clones) and Roms only will only display the Roms you have.

You can also use a modified XML with all the crap removed, There is also a modified xml in Brolly's ftp folder (currently at Mame version 0.152) which has things like Mahjong removed.

Ahhhh... I had a problem when it came to the wheels my self! I tried roms only and when I clicked to enter into a system, it just bounced back out. I eventually had to use Don's Hyperspin Tools and edit the XML itself. DHT's are pretty simple and straight forward so it really took about 5 minutes... (Plus I was able to remove all the Casino and Mahjong Games that take up soooo much space). I'm glad you got one thing working! One thing always leads to another, or more LOL

That can be down to not having the extension or the correct extension, or your Rom path set; in HHQ.

I have no idea what the problem was... if I didn't check the Parents/Roms only, it works fine. HHQ has the correct rom and emulator path. I just used DHT's and I was fine... no big deal and like I said, I got rid of all the annoying games I didn't want. I wasn't going to go crazy trying to figure it out (didn't want the headache). I'm sure something will pop up down the road where I will have to revisit.

Well here is the update. I made the changes as suggested and did a few tests and it worked. So my wife was very happy to see the computer off the dining room table :) I moved the PC into the cabinet, and then tried it out. So here is what happens now.

I can only launch 1 game from any emulator, then if I exit (ESC is my default), I can't select any other game from any other emulator. If I exit Hyperspin I see Hyperlaunch still running in the task tray. If I exit that, start Hyperspin, I can launch a single game again, and then the problem repeats :(

Set logging to troubleshooting and post logs. Typically hl is waiting for some thing. Test disabling fade. Test rebooting if you havent. You are 1 step closer!!

Using esc can be an issue as some emulators use it to switch between full screen an windowed. You would need to change the Exit Emulator key in HLHQ.

That was a thought I had too. Then I just started working with MAME, and the same thing was happening. ESC in Mame quits, so does it in Model2 (The two current systems I have somewhat got working).

To post the log, is there any logging options I should pick before I post them?

With Mame, I can use the esc key and it closes OK and Hyperlaunch also closes

Set it to troubleshooting and either use Pastebin and post the link or copy it all in here with the

 tags at both ends.

Yes, I followed these setup instructions:

http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?29481-How-to-install-HyperSpin

I just redid the whole installation again, figuring maybe some where along the lines I got a bad file downloaded (I'm on Comcast it has happened before). :)

Still getting pretty spotty performance. If I start a game after running Hyperspin, most of the time it starts fine. If I leave the system up for 15-30 min, almost nothing will launch. Also still only seem to be able to launch one game per emulator before I have to exit, kill Hyperlaunch and start again. So redoing the setup did not help. It's definitely something within my configuration itself. Not running anything fancy on the OS side either by the way, just Windows 7 x86.

Question: Are the notes in the included .ahk files now for the emulators still valid? In the video tutorials for HS3, It does not really show doing anything with them, but in older setups I am seeing that people are setting up as those additional notes state. I know its a silly question, but don't want to waste time going down this path if it is no longer valid.

Not always, I use then as a guide or if looking for a relevant solution. If it's a new system you've never setup before, I would check them out in case there is important info.

Alright Im going to go through them and see if that makes a difference. I will report back :)
