Artwork Quality

Hello everybody,

I finished all the Wheels with 2D/3D boxes. Pictures look great and quality is pretty amazing.

Now, I've begun with Game Themes  and artworks are pretty poor in quality (2D/3D boxes).

I have to reduce the size of the artworks because Hyperpin oversize it with a lost in quality.

If I want to keep the quality of the pictures, I have to keep them great but pictures are too great in Hyperspin and oversize screen....

Is it a trick to make the size in Photoshop equal to the size in Hyperspin without a lost in quality or is it inevitable to loose some quality?

The lost of quality can be seen on the Gamecube logo on the side of the cover.

Please only create one thread for your topic, not the same thread in a different section. 

As for your question, if you create the artwork as vector art then you can resize it without loss of quality. Someone will correct me if wrong and fill you in on other formats.

I think Vector trumps all when it comes to quality loss.

However if you run it through something like dark13's Flash scripts you could perhaps adjust ratio more-so and then smooth.

Changing example from the 16:9 to 4:3 script.

                bmp_tl.scaleX = 0.53333 ; Default 
                bmp_tl.scaleY = 0.7111 ; Default  
                bmp_tl.x = 0 ;
                bmp_tl.y = 0 ;

Change them to .26666 and .35666 etc.

There is also Photoresizer which I am not sure if it allows smoothing or some sort of masks to avoid edging issues, but couldn't hurt trying. It does bulk re-sizing which is helpful.

I've posted the pictures. Difference can be seen by opening the pictures in a new window and growing the size of it.

A general question that may help me....for the wheel, you can decide the size in HyperHQ.

Where are the infos about the size for the artworks? It seems that Hyperspin is not taking the png file as it, but tends to grow the artworks a little bit.

I f I can make my picture in Photoshop equal the size in Hyperspin, I could maybe get better resolution.

Can you tell me how Hyperspin manage the Artworks in size? Where are those settings?

For instance,  the size on screen in Photoshop for the artworks (in my case 3D/2D boxes) is always grown up in Hyperspin and loose some quality...

I thought that the size on screen in Photoshop (png file) would be the same in Hyperspin but it's not the case...

I've heard to convert png artworks in swf will save quality. is it possible with Adobe Illustrator?  What are the things to do?

This the kind of theme that I'd like todo in16:9.

This is the original PSD file linked. Qulaity is much better.

This is the png that I got resized from the PSD for the Artwork 3 (3D box) 007 - Nightfire (France).psd007 -

I see that there are more and more swf files for artworks. I've heard that quality is better than a png file.

What is a simple way with Adobe Illustrator to convert png artwroks in swf artowrks to save quality of those artworks?

Hi Bungles,

Fizen gave me a flash script that upscaled quality in 1080p and resize in 16:9 in one and it works like a charm.

swf has definitly better quality than png...

Now, I will do all the themes I've dreamed of...

That's Great News,

If only I we realized you were just tying to get get the images in the right display ratio.

Dark13's scripts have been an amazing help for me creating 16:9 media and themes.

when I tried to do the same with Photoshop (resize 4:3 to 16:9) I lost some quality.

With this script, pictures are great!
