new user looking for complete setup

hey guys, 

ive just started setting up hyperspin and rocketlauncher for my arcade cabinet. its honestly doing my head in. i feel like ive done everything correctly, followed all the steps from the beginning. though when i try to launch a mame game it says theres no default emulator set in rocketlauncher... when there is clearly a default emulator set (mame .194). with the correct extensions and module... this is just the beginning too  

im going to cop out and just ask... does anyone have a complete hyperspin setup with rocketlauncer thats ready to go? without the roms, i already have those and the download would be huge. im assuming if someone shares their complete folder then i can download it and everything is ready to go?  im looking for emulators up to PS2. i also want the media but i can get that myself as well. 

ive tried to search for it but cant seem to find it. would love any help.

Check your emulators.ini file in your rocketlauncher folder/settings/mame/

[ROMS]
Default_Emulator=MAME

Then in Rocketlauncher UI make sure in global settings that MAME is set to your preferred Mame emulator.

I think you will probably find that finding the specific issue you are having will be easier than trying to install somebody's setup which has everything pointing to different emulators in different folder structures on different hard drives anyway.

Keep at it! I doubt anyone here has had a completely trouble free time getting everything working, i know i didn't.

There are some good vids on youtube by simplyaustin which guides you through setting up specifically for the different systems so give that a go.

well i thought that if someone just uploads 2 folders... 1x hyperspin(with emulators) and 1x rocketlauncher. then says the directory they have their folders in. then it would work identical to their setup. I already plan to do this because im making more than 1 arcade machine.

weirdly enough that text did not show the default emulator... i feel like i already checked there but i guess not.... now to work out why no games are being recognized even though ive directed it to the correct ROMs folder and added the zip file extension (same as your screenshot)

There is a build in the Plat section but nothing other than that offsite bs I'm afraid.

Although the build is good I wouldn't suggest going plat just for it. Then again sync is the best reason for platinum and it's still pretty decent although not updated for a fair while. There is a new sync app that is hoped will smooth out these types of issues but it's not ready yet.

good luck with it and have a good search around this forum and rocket launchers for as these errors have been covered many times. Half hour searching and reading can save many hours messing around with things

Legend, the answer I was looking for. I'll check out platinum and see how much it is. 

Ill definitely search around before asking questions, it will be my last resort.

Hey Big Ray,

Rowr14 hit it on the head. Sometimes those pre-made setups require more work than just doing it all for yourself.

Once you start to understand how Hyperspin and Rocketlauncher interact with each other the overall picture becomes a lot clearer.

We are always here to answer any questions and help. If you can provide any screenshots of errors you are getting it is a lot easier to identify what the issue is and where it is coming from.

I only started my journey a year ago, and it did take a short while to figure most of it out, however if you know how it works it makes fixing small issues or customizing your setup much easier.

 

My advise it to start small. 

Install Hyperspin with its updates and Rocketlauncher and get those two working together.
(Guides are available on the Hyperspin Youtube Channel created by Avar and there are also guides created by a gentlemen named Simply Austin which I used to get started myself)
Whilst Simply Austin also has Packs you can download, I have since refreshed all those packages as great as they were you are sort of then diving into the deep end straight away without getting your toes wet..

Then add your first system/wheel and get it all working.

I would suggest MAME as you have done as its not overly difficult and MAME covers most of the old and new Arcade games.

From there you can move onto other systems like consoles etc.

ok so im giving it another go. ive got the roms working from RL but when i open HS and go to roms, i press 'enter' nothing happens, the games wont load... 

 

now ive search for every single fix online. ive turned off user settings so i dont get that pop up. ive changed settings.ini, HyperHQ settings etc. AND YES IVE RESTARTED MY COMPUTER LOL theres no background apps running

im going to attach everything here to show my setup. i really cant work this out. ive included a screenshot to confirm my rocketlauncher directory. 

 

its been about 2 hours of reading and downloading. most threads are from 2015. didnt know whether to comment on them or not. 

EDIT: it seems that hyperspin is trying to obtain all the directory information from hyperHQ and not rocketlauncher. im not sure if this is normal. if i remove all rom and emulator paths in hyperHQ then when i launch hyperspin and select MAME it wont even take me to the roms like they dont exist. even though everything is setup in rocketlauncher. including frontend settings etc.

Someone here might have enough familiarity to point you exactly to the settings you need, but in the off chance no one can help I would suggest doing a new step by step bare bones install following the Simply Austin tutorial(s). The fact that you have searched for a few hours and not found anything tells me that it might be something simple that was inadvertently missed during setup. There is a mame specific tutorial also if you would rather try that first.

Can you take a screenshot of your hyperhq wheel settings tab with mame wheel selected so I can compare with my own? Did you try setting the directory in hyperhq to the correct rom directory to see if that works, (then you know if it's not using RL)

It sounds to me like something somewhere isn't checked to tell RL to run the show, but it's been a while since I played with this stuff.

Also i've got RL in a different folder and it makes no difference, but you should of set something somewhere to point to it at some time in the process.

Follow the videos on the Official Hyperspin YouTube. That will get you setup in like ten mins (just use the pause button)  

Simply Austin misses a vital step iirc....

Lol thanks guys. I've actually reviewed both those tutorials before I commented. I think I'll delete everything and start from scratch.  

 

UPDATE: still not working. did everything from scratch with new folders. step by step official tutorial. 

UPDATE 2: FIXED! i needed to run hyperspin as administrator as well! in the tutorial i believe it only says rocketlauncher! 

this is unrelated to my antivirus as it was disabled. 

the weird thing is that i disabled those pop up settings on my computer completely but that still didnt work!
