The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

HyperSpin can't locate xml

Apologies if this is a really simple problem. I am new to trying to run emulators on my laptop, mainly wanted to set them up so that my son could play all the old games that I did as a boy. Anyway, have set up the latest HyperSpin and Rocket Launcher. Everything is working fine in RocketLauncher e.g. I have set up Sega Genesis to run from RetroArch. I have created a database and audited my games. I can launch any of the game in RocketLauncher, however, whenever, I run HyperSpin and try to launch the same games it gives me an error quoting an xml file that it cannot find in the RocketLauncherUI database folder. When I look in the folder the only xml file is a System file. When I set the database up in RocketLauncherUI should it be creating an xml file in the database folder and, therefore, am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Databases should be in the Hyperspin/Databases folder, with each system/wheel having its own folder with the Exact same name and within that folder should be your XML database files.

I.e

Hyperspin/Databases/Nintendo 64/Nintendo 64.xml

Rocketlauncher if set to use Hyperspin as its default Front End should then know to use that location also for databases.

Hope that helps you out.

Just make sure you have Hyperspin set as your active and default frontend.

that is usually the 1st issue.

I don't use RL or PC much but it is covered in the official Hyperspin tutorial videos. iirc it should not be looking in the RL database folder

i'm going to go add that link to my signature ?

Thanks both. I followed a Simply Austin tutorial which I thought was excellent. As I say, I'm a complete novice and the video was really easy to follow. Maybe I should watch the HyperSpin tutorials just to see if I missed something. I find with all the video and blog tutorials that people expect the observer to have some knowledge already so they jump over what they think are simple steps. Anyway, I did have HyperSpin set up as the default and active front end so that wasn't the problem. Out of curiosity I copied and pasted the xml from HyperSpin/Databases to the RocketLauncherUI databases folder it was looking in and of course it worked, which was something of a watershed moment as was the first time I actually got HyperSpin to launch a game. However, I am still no closer to working out why HyperSpin is  looking in RocketLauncher UI folders rather than HyperSpin folders. As I say, may just work back through all the tutorials to make sure that I haven't missed something.

Thanks again.

On General Settings > RocketLauncher in RLUI make sure Hyperspin is set as default plugin and default frontend (with tick boxes checked)

Double check this please. I have it on good authority this is the issue. Its very common

It definitely is selected for both default and front end. I did it as part of my setup and I checked earlier that nothing had changed. I suspect I've done something else wrong just don't know what!! When I get chance (when my son goes to bed and gets off the computer) I'm going to go back through the tutorials.

For me I found that I did not have my default frontend in both attached locations. I only had it configured in RocketlauncherUI>Frontends

Works good for me now!

Thank you sunfish and thatman. Between your last two posts HyperSpin is now working as it should. Changing these settings wasn't in the tutorial I watched! Now for my next problem, finding an N64 emulator that doesn't launch a pop up crashing HyperSpin!!

Thanks again guys

Sorry sinfish autocorrect changed your name

Lol! Sunfish is just as good. My most prized hobby is fishing. It works either way.
