ok so im in a bit of a pickle...

dons rename tool only recognizes 70 of my 1400 ps1 games.

i thought id create a new xml list with my rom names. though now my media (images and videos) arent matching my xml names now and i cant rename them either!

is there any trick to getting my roms renamed? heres a text list of my roms. its a bit of a mixed batch.

i just dont understand why Dons tool doesnt have a simple feature where it could 'match all with the best possible answer.' because '2xtreme-ntsc-u-scus-94508-' is obviously '2Xtreme (USA)' in my XML!! in my head its so simple but maybe im missing something.

ive got the standard ps1 xml in my database

thanks in advance

Take a browse here, there are some programs that will do as you describe and try and 'match with best possible answer'

I don't know of any of these that are 100 percent reliable though and will still require some checking to ensure you are renaming the right stuff.

Your best course of action is to try and rename your roms, because as you said it will take all the pain out of getting the images and videos right.

-edit i'm a bit suprised if don's isn't picking up the majority, did you select the drop down under system for cd image?

CD images work a little different, I'd recommend checking out the tutorials on the site for setting them up, failing that I used this youtube video to work out what was going on when I went through this. Learning the full process first with these online resources will save you a lot of time and headaches going forward.

I have a bunch of zipped PlayStation games that are bin and cue files but don’t match the PlayStation xml.  Anyone know if I can use a renaming tool to rename the zip file only? I thought years ago when I was going to set up PlayStation you would have to change the names inside of the bin and cue files. In my mind as long as the zip is named correctly rocket launcher will unzip it and load the cue file which will tell it the name of the bin file even though those would be a different name than the original zip file? Thanks

any renaming tool will do what you want.  Just use Fuzzy match logic.

You can use Fatmatch

when fatmatch asks for a rom path -->  point it to your PSX wheel images

when fatmatch asks for a media path -->  point it to your PSX zip files.

Instead of renaming your files

You should look into deleting your BIN CUE files and replacing  them with  MAMEs  CHDs ;   you will save allot of Hard Drive space given that

this files are compressed.  And the BEST!!!!! part.   Their is no need for RL to unzip them before they load.  You will get faster loading times.

or

Look for a PBP  PSX formatted  games   (also compressed  so their is no need to zip them)

if you can't find them or don't want to download them;  their are multiple  tutorials on how to convert your Bin/CUE files to PBP  on YouTube.

Only reason to keep BIN/CUE files is if you plan to burn them to a CD and play them on an actual PSX console.

link to fatmatch (go to Youtube their are a few tutorials on how to use the program)
