Zeven Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 So yeah... uh hi. Been planning on doing a retropie desktop arcade cabinet build. But I have a decent pc I just retired that I am thinking could handle games with a bit more technical demand. With that said, I was starting some research to see if there was a front-end for PC that was relatively user friendly. Hyperspin seems like it may have the best set-up for what I want to do. One of my concerns is, I want to be able to power on my arcade cabinet and have it boot right into Hyperspin. Is that something I am going to be able to do? I am sure you guys have a tutorial somewhere of what I am going to need to do that. Beyond my project, this is all something that interests me and I look forward to finding out what the community has been doing and would like to see how I fit into it for the future. -Zeven
wallmachine Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 Using the Search feature on the site deduced the following.
Zeven Posted March 10, 2018 Author Posted March 10, 2018 Neat! I will probably need to make use of this "Search" feature many times before my project is complete.
gigapig Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 A lot of us with cabs use the above to boot straight into Hyperspin. There are some tricks to mask the boot process depending on the OS. You also need to delay the launch as some background apps like Steam can steal focus if they load after HS has started, making HS unresponsive

Zeven Posted March 10, 2018 Author Posted March 10, 2018 I appreciate input from both of you. Thanks guys. I look forward to digging up more tips and tricks as I go along. There seems to be a lot of good information scattered about in my search... that or my search is just scattered. I probably need a plan of attack. I will probably test out my older PC this weekend, possibly format it. It was a solid but average gaming pc about 6 years ago, but it has a harder time holding up to powerful games. It should be able to handle everything I want to throw on it. If I need to play something higher end, that is what my current PC is for. I have a lot of figuring out to do. I am checking out the tutorials as we speak, but any tips you guys have for starting out would be welcome. Meanwhile I need to actually plan my cabinet out and start drafting up a template. I have seen ones posted on line but they don't quite fit what I want. I already started digging through the cabinet forums to get some inspiration for what I want to do with my cabinet. I would love to build a full size one. Right now though I don't really have a good spot for it.
Kondorito Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 Welcome Zeven One advise I would give you is (if you are planning on adding several systems, not just MAME) to start the configuration process with only one system. Once you finish it you will have the knowledge and order to do the remaining ones easier. When I did my cab I got the same advise but did not follow it, and regretfully that made me go back and forth in configs and design for years Enjoy the ride!
