Hello,i am having issues with launching mame.First off i am new BUT i have successfully got a full hyperspin/rocket launcher working on my own without having to get help, yet.lots of videos and trial and error.i tried on the mame website but after 3 days of awaiting approval to post questions i gave up and i thought i would post here.i have a windows vista i just converted to 7 and it is 32 bit.i have a set of 185 roms and downloaded the 32 bit 185mame emulator.this is where it stops.the emulator just brings up a flash of cmd prompt.i did use cmd to get a mame ini file but it still wont open.i had this happen on windows 7 64 bit but i used a ini file for mameui and it worked.no such luck this time.i used mame64  for my previous build.but this one is 32 bit and i dont see a ui for 32 bit that matches my roms set.if there is another way around this i would like to know. i have looked for a week but can not find an answer.if anybody has a suggestion i would love to try.thanks for looking!!!!

Try deleting the mame.ini

Mame should create a fresh one next time you start it.

Thanks for responding...i tried deleting but it does not make a new ini file,i re downloaded mame0185b 64 bit version from mame web site thinking something was corrupt .but it still does not work.it just flashes quick cmd prompt and thats all.since i have the 185 rom sets i would like to get it working with the 185 emulator.and since i cant get it to work outside of hyperspin i know theres no point of going forward.i can make an ini file but it does not change the outcome.i have tried on a 64 bit laptop but it does the same also.im at a loss.any ideas are welcome..thanks again ....to clarify..i downloaded the 64 bit version and tried it on a 64 bit computer..not 64 bit on the 32 bit computer

Ini files have had changes from version to version... using a different versions ini may not be good.

you have tried on 2 different PCs and no go???

Just base install right? Binary not Source right?

There is never a reason to get both of these... your system (OS) is either 64bit or not.

Alsp the mame ini used to reside in the same folder as mame.exe, not in the ini folder so try there.

I can only suggest trying to run it as admin to see if that helps.

from my limited knowledge I had to create the name.ini with a batch script or cmd prompt also.

you could try this video but may not help.

what happens if if you try and pass the command to launch a game? Cant remember the specifics right now soz

What i meant was i get the 32 bit and 64 bit from the same website ,same column that i should be in.i tried the 64 on a 64 and then the 32 on a 32.i did try the ini file in .ini folder and out but in mame folder.i have tried as administrator and changed folder options like full control read\write permissions.as for the last suggestion of compiling myself.....not gonna happen.-"dammit jim im an hvac tech, not a computer programmer".which is why it took me months to do what you all could do in minutes, but i did get it going.and works great but i had a emulator that was user friendly i guess mameui, anyhow it worked but im seriously struggling why this does not open.i appreciate your help.

Just for fun i opened both ini files, one i created and one from mameui64.i compared them line by line the only difference i found was the path of ini.mameui64 path is ini.the one i create has a path of .;ini;ini/presets if i change the path to ini it still does not work however if i copy paste the mameui64  ini file into the folder the darn thing opens up and works.its as if when making the ini file there is something else getting edited or something and not letting my edited file work.hows that for whacked.so any ideas again?

If you start with a new mame version it is best to put the new version in its own folder. Run mame -cc or mame -createconfig to start with a fresh config and go from there. Things change version to version and if you do this it will cut down on issues. That is not to say that pasting a new exe over an old one won’t work. It can cause issues if you don’t start fresh imho. Good luck!

UPDATE..i went back and compared ini files again and i missed something the first time.under osd video options it was auto.i changed it to opengl like the "working" ini file i copied from mameui64 and now my windows 7 64 bit workes with my created ini file.feeling good i went to the 32 bit computer and tried it there.now it will open instead of flash of cmd prompt BUT the gui is messed up there is no numbers or letters they are blocked out.I put a picture up if it worked.i now know it can work i just need some ideas where to go from here.graphics card, computer settings ,i dont know but it should be doable.if anybody runs into this change the video setting to opengl and it should work.
