newoski
Hi Guys, Thanks so much for your ongoing help as I grapple with my first bartop. I see a lot of people recommend 4:3 monitors, but I also see people talking about emulating with HD graphics. Are 4:3 monitors compatible with HD graphics? What resolution should I be shooting for with a 4:3 19" monitor? Thanks!
cowboy
Depends what monitor your after mine is from digital system design. co.uk. Does 800x600 or 1024x768 guy told me it would do 1024 but not recommended. Here's the site http://www.digitalsystemsdesign.co.uk/shop.php?c1=CRT%20Monitors%20and%20Parts&c2=CRT%20Monitor%20Assemblies&sp=1 Cowboy

newoski
I plan to use an LCD 19" computer monitor. The question is... what is the recommended 4:3 resolution?

OneBadVeggie
How about a 26" and a 32"?
mikekim
How about a 26" and a 32"? 16:9, 16:10 or 4:3? if they are 16:9 / 16:10 depends on the resolution the monitor will handle. a good 26 will handle 1920 x 1080 with no problems 32" PC monitors will easily do 2560 x 1600 (16:10) or 2540 x 1440 (16:9) 32" tvs will be stuck at 1920x1080 larger 4:3 above 20" will be CRT, so you would be lucky to get over 640 x 480 on them. mikekim
Checking the math, isn't this 5:4?Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk yes its 5:4 SXGA but will run on a 4:3 monitor otherwise you can run 1024 x 768 - I force mine to 800 x 600 (using nircmd) before running any emulators

mikekim
I found that the games looked better when I lowered the monitor resolution from 1280x1024 to 800x600. Tbh I might try running at 640x480, as that was the original resolution the games ran in.
mameshane
I would have though the image would look a bit grainy not running at the monitors standard resolution. I might give it a try myself
amrathe
I have 3 Samsung 214T monitors that I have set aside for Arcade Cabinet builds. They are 21.3" 4:3 IPS monitors that I grabbed off of ebay last year for about $70 each. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-SyncMaster-214T-54-Zoll/dp/B00BT0NULQ There is a link to what they look like. amrathe
I know I have found some 4:3 monitors below 20" during my search last year. They were generally geared towards Graphics Design or oddly enough, the medical field. The problem with specialized monitors like those is they usually have a pretty high response time on them causing major ghosting.
