Ultimarc questions

Lol apparently I asked Andy too many questions so he stopped responding. Considering I’m about to drop like closer to 400 bucks you would think the guy wouldn’t mind. Fewer questions if my questions were always answered but... anyhow.. looking to the community for answers I guess now.

I’m looking to get gold leaf rgb buttons and stirvo sticks. I hope to get back lighting to the cabinet as well. My remaining questions are below....

Do you get zip ties to clean up any of the wiring used?

If I were to make inserts or insert stickers, is it possible to open the rgb gold leaf button to insert the inserts at the bottom of the button?

Do you feel like the rotary stick upgrade can hinder other games? Like street fighter maybe the joystick could rotate during gameplay if the rotary is easy to twirl. In this case I’ll get the led ball top instead. Anyone know? I’m after a ball top Servostick

Anyone have recommendations on backlighting and connecting it to account for led blinky?

Thank you

Hey, im a bit obsessive with wiring tidiness (im an Aircraft Technician) so yeah, get yourself LOTS of zipties. Just go buy yourself a bag of ones about 100mm long, and run all your wires neatly, and bundle them up with zipties. You should also get some little self adhesive zip tie mounts which you can use to keep the wiring neat and tidy against the panel. (these are like little squares about 1/2" square with a sticky face and a loop on top)

Yeah, the buttons come apart pretty easily to put an insert under the top cap, just do it before you wire it all up, as once you have connected all the push connectors and wires , it can be tricky (and you'll break wires) trying to disconnect it again, as the push connectors can be a bitch to remove once they are on. (i haven't done mine yet and im regretting it now)

I cant comment on servostik, other than i wish i had them (very hard to get in Oz). however i cant see you having a problem with rotation, as it's servo connected meaning it won't rotate freely.

As for backlighting, just use any 12v led strips, cut them to length, as long as you keep them wired in series, cut the up and connect the ends with wires..., you can run them off any led controller like ipac ultimate, or pacled64 controlled by ledblinky, or connect them to any dedicated 12v power supply for constant lighting.

(this pic shows 1 wire run to each button, there are 4 now... keep it neat from the start, saves it turning into a birdnest)

Really appreciate it

Do you have the gold leaf buttons or the standard rgb. Reason I ask is because the gold leaf I’m under the impression they are pre wired and no addition chains are needed. If toy gave the gold leaf that’s fantastic news.

I’d love to confirm the rotary upgrade. I really don’t want it to be rotating while playing other games by mistake. Great si I’m going to get the led top instead

The buttons he is using looks like chinese led kit buttons. I have the same ones i'm using to mod the led insert into sanwa buttons. They light up great and the the switches are decent enough.

I'm not familiar with the gold leaf buttons though, We don't have the same avenues of supply over to Australia. Consider emailing the supplier (ultimarc?) if you can't find any info here or online. -edit : Just reread your post, you mean the supplier stopped responding?

yep, mine are single colour compact led buttons, they are the same size as the rgb ones you are looking at though. (i have found a supplier in Australia with them for $2 each) As rowr said, we have to make do with what we can find down here!

Ive seen the prewired ones from ultimarc, should make the connections very easy, but will be a bit messier as every wire will be the wrong length (because they are all the same), so like i said before... LOTS of zipties!

Lol yep ultimarc aka Andy stopped responding. He told me I asked too many questions. He either avoided answering my questions or was very vague so I would end up asking him the same question again basically. I’m dropping hundreds of dollars on buttons etc, I would expect to know exactly what I’m in for doing so which I think is very poor customer service. The products are great in general but man what a poor experience. He told me he’s only done this a few times in 25 years but he’s no longer responding he said. I don’t want to troll him but man my questions I felt were reasonable and literally all I want are the answers before the purchase. I’ve googled for answers and couldn’t find all of them. The last decision I need to make is do I go rotary upgrade or led ball top upgrade. Leaning to led since I’m unclear how the rotary upgrade would do on the ServoStik when playing 99% of the other games

Yeh that sucks. It is for sure hard to find good information around this stuff, if your lucky you can get some half decent amateur product reviews on youtube.

If they take small orders I would consider ordering just a single button or the smallest amount possible just so you can get something in your hands to test for the least investment. As far as the stick stuff, wish I could help but I actually don't even know what a rotary upgrade or servostik even is ?

Lol ya I’ll be doing a review and process of the upgrade. Servo sticks are the best sticks you can get and can convert 4 to 8 way on a press of a button. There are like 15 games in mame that you can twist the ball top to control the direction you shoot like the original arcade game did. That’s the only use for the update but I’m not sure how the rotary ball plays with all the other games. Like I don’t want to be trying to play street fighter and my combo screws up cus the ball twists a little.

Andy could easily answer this question and I’m a little frustrated. His response was I have the rotary upgrade on my cabinet, I like it. Well Andy that wasn’t my question, my question was can you tell or does it effect gameplay with other games that don’t use it.

Anyone have the rotary upgrade with their servostick?

Anyone have gold left rgb buttons from ultimarc? Could you add sticker inserts easily aka can the button open easily?

I’m going to get full rgb goldleaf and two servosticks. I’m trying to decide either the led ball top or rotary upgrade. Rotary would be cool but I also like led top. I’ll have two servosticks. I guess worse case I could use a Xbox controller for rotary control?

Why not player two

Servos are amazing, but fussy. There's only like 1 or two games that benefit from it on P2

Lol oh just the flipping to 4 way I guess. I have a happ stick and it just feels cheap and springy. Is there maybe a stick I should get for player two? In my mind servos were the best in my mind

What fussy stuff happens?

Just need to make sure springs are holding restrictor plate in correct position, but since there's minimal benefit, I recommend keeping limited to one, only. If I was doing a new cab, I would do one

This is amazing thanks new as always! You are spot on with the games. Here is the list of 4 way only and they are all not simultaneous plays so one would do just fine that’s for sure. Boy this changes things. Hmmm now I’m gonna need to look into the possibility of making one of those sticks led tops. So close to making a decision here. Once I get the stick figured out. Led buttons and sticks will be ordered
