The HyperSpin 2 early access beta is here!

We’re starting the first public testing phase with Platinum Members to keep the scope manageable while we test the current feature set and begin to add more. In the future, we’ll provide a version for basic members as well.  On behalf of the entire HyperSpin team, we look forward to another exciting adventure with our community.

Can Hyperspin load videos and themes for an executable on the Main Menu?

So allow me to skip the incredibly long story and just get to the fact that on my Hyperspin Main Menu, I have a MAME wheel along with about 10-20 PC Games (yes, all on the Main Menu).  The PC Games are a mix of abandonware and Steam games and they all launch fine from the Main Menu, LEDBlinky runs great with all of them, life is good.

Question:

I've tried putting videos of some of the games into the Main Menu media folder and naming them the same as the executable ("Crazy Taxi" for example), but Hyperspin doesn't load the preview video.  Am I doing something wrong, or does Hyperspin not load up preview videos on the Main Menu for items that are executables (instead of wheels)?

AFAIK it should play them if named exactly like the menu item.

The format of the video matters though. Like It won't play just any MP4. Might be too high a bitrate or something. A simple test would be to copy the mame video and rename it to one of the other names. Does it play?

Thanks for the reply.  It doesn't seem to be the video.  I renamed it to another rom, and it previews fine. I also added Crazy Taxi to the Mame.xml, and it previews it fine in the Mame subwheel, but of course can't load it there.

Attached is my Wheel Settings snapshot. Any other ideas?

Oh I see you are bypassing RL altogether... interesting. If you use the PC launcher module in RL it will open back up the rom path and extension options in HQ. I assume it would work then.

Ahh...  crap.  I was afraid it would be that.  For some reason, PC Games wasn't listed in RLUI's systems, and when I tried to create it, I couldn't get it to work (I have a post on RL forum about pclauncher.ahk that is still looking for help, I think).    That's why I ended up with this workaround.

Do you think if I reinstall RL, the PC Games system would show up, or is there a proper xml file I can look at to add the PC Games system properly?

I've been thinking about trying to get the PC Games system to work, because some of the Steam games I'd like to play on my cab would require some type of key remapping, or VJoy, I believe.

PC Games should show up as a system just like Steam and Steam Big Picture should. Open the module and all the supported systems of the PCLauncher module will be at the top.

Make sure they are spelled exactly right.

I agree it should show up. Any suggestions as to why it's not, or (more importantly) how to get it back?

I did suggest you spell them correctly. If in doubt look in :\HyperSpin\RocketLauncher\RocketLauncherUI\Media\Icons

He wants to have individual games on the main wheel!

I have no idea why he wouldn't just want a PC Games system but that's what he is trying to do. Odd setup for sure, but I don't see why the videos wouldn't work.

Gotcha, so Rocketlauncher is not required anyway. But the video should just play off the main menu if it's in the Main Menu/Videos folder and named correctly.

I appreciate everyone's help.

I should clarify that I would actually prefer to have my Steam games and PC games run from a PC Games wheel, but the PC Games module did not appear by default in the list of systems in RL and when I tried to create it, I wasn't able to get it to work. So I put my PC Games on the Main Menu as a workaround. I'm going to try to reinstall RL and see if that fixes it.

Meanwhile... and I know you guys are going to hate me for this, so I sincerely do apologize... but regarding the Steam game videos that wouldn't load... I hadn't downloaded any themes for those games.  I just started with downloading the videos and seeing if they loaded on the Main Menu.  I had assumed that the Mame theme would just carry over like it does in the Mame subwheel and play the relevant video (I know, I know).  I downloaded a theme for the only Steam game I had that I could find and it's video loads now... So no theme, plus the fact that they're on the Main Menu was clearly my problem.

But a sincere thanks to you both, because I wouldn't have kept going to see if it would work without your replies.
