Silverbullit Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Hi forumfriends, Trying to setup Sinclair ZX Spectrum on HyperSpin/RocketLauncher (Win10 latest) but I need help as I am on my wits end. Googled and searched Youtube but I cannot find a working tutorial (Only people flashing their working installs with thousands of games) I looked at Romanos tutorial and got the triple zip with "Roms" divided in to subfolders but I can not get it to work, the Roms turn red in audit tab. I used Romanos ahk's for RocketLauncher/Modules and Hyperspin/Databases, folders are named "Sinclair ZX Spectrum" as from Hyperspin tutorials (Instead of Romanos/Speccys ZX Spectrum) However theres a lot of unused stuff in the Romano/Speccy DL, I did try the provided 30 day trial "Spectaculator 7" Emulator to see if I can get it going before investing in the latest software but no luck so far. I mostly did everything the general way as taught in the HyperSpin/RL Youtube tutorials linked from here. Audit Roms are highlighted red all the way through I get an error message; "Cannot find Rom "whatever in romlist.tap" In any Rom_Paths provided: "X:\HyperSpin\Roms\Sinclair ZX Spectrum" With any provided Rom_Extension: "zip/tzx/tap/z80/dsk"" (As mentioned these are the tripple zip extracted to subfolder directories in numerical order, I tried putting in the 3-pack zips but no improvement there either) I followed tips from the ancient non working tutorials and; RocketLauncherUI.exe settings: “Sinclair ZX Spectrum” “7z”: enabled = false attach system name = false in “settings”: “Skip Checks = false” “Emulators”/“rom Paths” added folder with Roms (Or rather the subfolder archive) But nothing helps... I need your help friends, is there an updated tutorial for dummies such as yours truly? Any help or solutions would be greatly appreciated! May the force be with you mates! /Silverbullit PS. I got a couple of Emulators working, Mame, NES and GameCube. I planned to do ZX Spectrum, Atari 2600, psx and the Nintendos before I build a hopefully beautiful 4p cabinet and do a complete install with all systems enabled if possible. But I came to a complete halt with ZX Spectrum and I do not want to give up on my dream of my own Arcade machine.
gigapig Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 I personally use Spectaculator but other people on the forum have had success with Retroarch. There is no need to have the ROMs zipped up as they are so small. Have you read the RocketLauncher module notes for Spectaculator?

Thanks for helping out Gigapig, I really appreciate your time and effort mate! If you mean by module notes the Spectaculator.ahk yes I opened up all 3 files in Modules (Spectaculator.ahk/ini/isd) to see if I could understand something which I unfortunately do not. Do you have any idea how to get HS/RL to recognize (greenlight audit) the roms? Some detailed nfo; When I audit the games in RL the entire list turns red from top to bottom, I cannot get RL/HS to recognize the games whatever I do (It does not work renaming with Dons tools either) I put different game collections in my HyperSpin/Roms/Sinclair ZX Spectrum folder with following file extensions; zip|tap|tzx|z80 (From various collections) Downloaded the Sinclair ZX Spectrum.xml (1603kb) from https://hyperlist.hyperspin-fe.com/ also alternatively DL and tried mediapack & Sinclair ZX Spectrum.xml (3196kb) from http://r0man0.free.fr/index.php/download-zx-spectrum-gamebase/ (Theres a bunch of xml's and Romanos tutorial use folders/files without Sinclair as in ZX Spectrum.xml so I simply added Sinclair so it became Sinclair ZX Spectrum.xml Notice that the media/gamepack supposedly has like 12k games, I get around 88games counted and then red in audit, alternatively the subfolder thingie gives about 32 games thats red when audit. (No matter if I put them in the root folder OR keep them in subfolders) I tried Romanos DL from his homepage ZX tutorial (Unable to follow that one to the letter as it is old and not everything seems to be the same) found here; http://r0man0.free.fr/index.php/topic/installing-the-zx-spectrum-gamebase-package-for-hyperspin/ RocketLauncher/Modules/Spectaculator Spectaculator.ahk (9kb) Spectaculator.ini (287kg) and Spectaculator.isd (4kb) HyperSpin/Modules/Sinclair ZX Spectrum Sinclair ZX Spectrum(Spectaculator v7.51.1761 djvj 1.0).ahk (1kb) If you have any clues or maybe know a video tutorial for dummies that works that I can follow, it would be a real lifesaver. Thanks again for taking your time helping a forummate out Gigapig! /Silverbullit
Spawk Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 The SpeccyMania V4 set is from 2013 but that tutorial from Romano was posted March 2020 so it's up to date and seems very comprehensive so what exactly is different? Follow the tutorial exactly, if it doesn't say add "Sinclair" to the xml name, then just don't do it. It is very specific to that V4 set as well, other ZX sets may have a different setup? For future reference, you can access the module notes right in RLUI by clicking the 2 yellow pages:
gigapig Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 To follow on from what Spawk has said, if you are using R0man0's ROM set then make use you use the XML to go with it as the names of the ROM's need to match the names in the xml 'exactly.' Also, if the ROMs are zipped then you will need 7z enabled.
Silverbullit Posted February 8, 2021 Author Posted February 8, 2021 Mates, I got it to greenlight all Roms within the ZX Spectrum folder. I fiddled with the Sinclair ZX Spectrum folder and now the same Roms are green-lit. I however dont have a clue what I did/what changed this. I Have not tried to start anything through Hyperspin yet, only within the UI and clicking the "Rocket" icon within games menu in the RLUI. NEW PROBLEM, sorry mates now I can not choose buttons on keyboard/gamepad. Fred that I got working has menu option 3 to set buttons by pressing up down left righ shoot... However it just fills up the options without me being able to do something. What could be wrong? Thank you Gigapig and Spawk, I really appreciate your professional Guru help! May the force and good karma reward you! /Silverbullit the unprofessional noob
