Hello all! I am a brand new member here and somewhat new to the retro gaming/emulation world. I am BLOWN away by the collective brain power behind HyperSpin and information on this forum as I muddle my way through a steep learning curve! So thank you to all the developers and members in advance! I am hoping for some direction and help with a build I am working on...

I bought my 9 year old son a retro standup 2-player gaming arcade for Christmas on FB Marketplace (which I didn't know would also come with a new project for me. Wife is thrilled🤣). The gentleman I bought it from did an EXCEPTIONAL job building the machine probably ~10-15 years ago. A mini HP PC (Windows 10) is running Hyperspin 1.5.1 with large MAME library and iPAC 2 (older legacy PS/2 version) for the two joystick and 7 button layouts (plus 1 player/2 player, $.25 buttons, side volume buttons, side paddle buttons) and trackball. It's got a built in fan, 5 channel speaker setup, 4:3 monitor. He even soldered in a 3.5MM jack connection on the front of the PC to the board for an on/off arcade button on the back of the cabinet.

The problem is (and he warned me), the computer is old and often crashes or get's stuck loading games and is slow to load up, etc. He recommended replacing it, but did mention it's not easy... Well I am always up for a project (wife rolls eyes) so I did some homework online and ordered a Beelink SER5 Max and a second 1TB SSD (1.5TB total). Figured I could transfer all the files and programs exactly from the old machine with the drives named the same, etc and it should work right? Well... sort of. I got Hyperspin to work, all the systems and games to work, but can't get the keyboard buttons to map and can't get any of the arcade controls to work (I realized my old IPAC PS/2 likely wouldn't work well with Windows 11, so I have ordered a new version of the Ipac 2 which will come in a few days). After messing with it for several hours yesterday I had what I think is an epiphany...  Why am I trying to replicate a 10+ year old build? I really wanted to keep HyperSpin (vs Batocera, etc) and figured it would be simple and easy to transfer, but with the issues I've run into, I have decided I'd rather start fresh with HyperSpin 2.0 and the latest MAME library. I watched a couple YouTube videos on 2.0 and it looks really impressive!

So... I am here hoping for direction on any helpful existing posts or tutorials on HyperSpin 2.0 (Is it even available for the public? I donated $50 not sure if that matters for access), and integrating the latest MAME library.

Sorry for the NOOB post! I am NOT a savvy computer programmer but am willing to put the effort in to learn and figure this out! Any help GREATLY appreciated.

You seem to be perfect to try the beta as long as you realise it is still early and I'm sure HS 2 is very functional if you just want a few systems to start with.

It's also good for you to start learning from scratch.

Most other systems will use Retro arch which I recommend you look at some setup videos on.

HS2 will guide you and is much easier to set up than HS1.

Awesome! Thank you. The few HS2 videos I watched did seem to offer an easier setup than what I gather HS1 entailed.

Think it’s worth downloading the latest MAME library vs using all my old files I copied over from the last machine? I image there’s been many updates to some of the games…

Also, sorry for what may be a dumb question… where is the download link for HS2 beta? I only see 1.5 in the downloads section.

It's that download link right up top there on the sites menu. The getting started part of the docs should also be helpful: https://docs.hyperai.io/docs/hyperhq/getting-started

The old download section does not have any hyperspin 2 stuff in it.

Hi there! I have downloaded the latest Mame Rom Set (unmerged) and CHDs, all saved on a dedicatd SSD F: drive (see image) as well as the latest updated HyperHQ. When I go through the add system wizard I get this error message: MAME Setup Failed: Plugin not founds: mame.

ANY suggestions?

That is an error with HyperHQ. Check the plugins tab on the main screen and check if mame plugin is there and updated. A couple of the other testers have had this error recently so devs are aware

Ah... thank you! Yes it's there for me. Would the solution be to uninstall MAME .284 and install it on my own before the hyperHQ setup and select that I already have it?image.png.4d72ae6fcb4a2b2e74f40f1c8d2e455b.png

Oh man, sorry in advance or not being able to navigate this myself!

I am having two issues now: First, the games in MAME .284 are all showing up but there's no artwork covers and maybe no media? I downloaded unmerged ROMS and CHD's. Saved them in the same root file under F:/ Mame .284. Second, when I try to launch Hyperspin or test/play now any game, nothing happens. Hyperspin won't launch. DO i need to download HS seperately from HyperHQ? I don't see a Hyperspin Program separate from HQ as I did on the old HS 1.5.

Thanks in advance...

Well I reinstalled all of the plugins and I got HyperSpin up working, but none of the games have any images and won't launch... there's also just a list of 40k+ games on the wheel... I am thinking perhaps the giant Mame .284 set is problematic... my old setup was nicely organized on the wheel by system. Was hoping to replicate that. Any help appreciated!

Correct the roms don't matter on mame import. It just reads the game info from the mame game info not the roms themselves.

Okay thank you. I'll go into Mame itself and see what I can sort out... appreciate the guidance.
