Control panel art question

Recommended Posts

Working on the last few pieces of my cabinet build.

Unfortunately the original wood control panel button sizes are irregular and some of the buttons are sinking. I'm thinking to put an acrylic top and mount the buttons in it now that I have the correct bit to make the proper sized hole. I'm using a carbon fiber type decal (for cars actually) that gives it a really nice look.

my question is where would be a good place to find control panel button layouts. I'm using the template from slagcoin.com (attached) and would like to find something that uses 3 buttons (lower 3 and upper 3) and provides the same sort of surrounding glow as in the other pic. This will help cover up and gap from the previous wood cut.

Any suggestions?

Attached is the 2 ideas for the glow effect and the button template I'm using.

You can use the 8-button layout from your post and only use the 6 buttons from the right side. Simply leave out the left ones and you have a decent 6 button layout.

I like drawing the button layout on the artwork in photoshop, printing the artwork on vinyl tape, than glueing the artwork on the board (wood, MDF, carbon, ...) and finally drilling the button holes with a 26mm or 28mm bit.

Like in your StreetFighter sample image, the exact drilling points are marked a white dots in the center of the circles.

Hi Guys, thanks for the reply.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I've already got my holes drilled per the slagcoin.com drawing that I had. What I'm wondering is how I can create the artwork to add the color around the buttons. I've found plenty of artwork that would look good as a background, but how to get the glow around the buttons like in the Chun Li picture above? Or should I just print out the pic I like and try to add circles on the artwork, do a could quick prints to make sure it's alined before getting a quality print done?

Is there a template source somewhere?
