Dude im in the same boat steve, I have a perfectly good 17 inch laptop monitor that I cant use. Its only like 27 wires, and ive done my fair share of soldering.... but screw that

I was about to ask what the cable looked like. If it was a ribbon cable from end to end I would have said you are screwed. But that cable. Is doable. Extending that round cable. Would still require soldering but much easier to do and much less pain.

Just buy a new monitor or a refurbished one. By the time you're done buying all the supplies you need and look at the amount of time required, you might as well just spend the money on a proper monitor.

I once wanted to build a steering wheel for my PC. When I was done adding up all the components, it would have been more expensive than buying a refurbished Logitech Momo wheel so I bought that instead.
