Best method to prune romsets?

What is the best/quickest/cleanest way to prunr a romset?

I have the mame romset working great in HS, but there are just too many games id never play and then you have like all those gambling/casino games. I can edit the XML files, but the roms are over 30 GB, and with a 256 GB SSD as my hard drive the space is valuable.

Is there an alternative to just going through it manually and deleting all the roms i dont want? does anyone have a 154 romset they have already done?

use a database that doesnt have those games in it

The issue with that is that I will still have the entire rom set and that will be eating up a ton of space on my very small hard drive

You can check out Kodiak's xml audit utility. It reads an xml then you point it to a folder/s whether it's artwork or Roms and it will seperate everything it matches in the XML and things that are not in sticks tem in a unknown folder.

Then just toss the stuff it weeds out as unknown.

You can find it on emumovies actually, but his name on there is Nologic.

it just says xml is invalid. when i use the xml available on HL it takes that.

Oh yea, forgot about this problem with newer xml's. Just log into Hyperlist, choose make your own list, then upload Brollys xml and have Hyperlist parse and recreate the list then save it, it creates the xml in the format that the XML audit tool uses and you won't get that error anymore.

I'm sure if Kodiak was still around he could easily update the software to avoid this work around but I have not seen him around for a while.

But yea you could use Dons HS list generator to make a super customized list. It's one of the most powerful tools for making custom MAME lists around.
