Leachdude Posted March 19, 2012 Share Posted March 19, 2012 OK I guess I will start my build thread and see how it goes, any help or tips will be much appreciated as this is my first VirtuaPin, I have setup and built a Mame cabinet years ago. I also am a PC tech and do custom gaming rigs so the PC side of things should be simple for me, construction not so much as this is why I got an empty WB to start. Cabinet- Empty STTNG decent body Decals, head decals are shot, will be stripping and just painting black for now, may add custom or original STTNG later. I will be needing to get the hinges, coindoor, legs, speaker panel, glass, and buttons. TV's- 42" LG LED for Playfield, 28"Hannspree for Backglass (will be using 22" for setup), 16" HannG for DMD (Hopefully to be adding real DMD when 2nd shipment of boards arrive) Computer - i5 2500k will be overclocked to around 4700, GTX 460 for playfield, GT430 for backglass and DMD. Mot-Ion Adaptor Digital Plunger Kit Have yet to decide on what I will do for speakers. Any suggestions? I would like to add after the intial build, LEDwiz, and some sort of feedback system for the selonoids. So my first question. What is going to be the easiest way to mount this playfield into the cabinet? I will add pictures as I get some stuff started, I am just gutting the back box and preparing for some paint right now. What are some of the best options for PC speakers in a cabinet? Looking for a more simple build to start so thinking of just PC speakers with a sub. Any thoughts? Chris.. sundaypinball Posted March 20, 2012 Share Posted March 20, 2012 Personaly, if you cannot access to a pro spraypaint pistol + air compressor, I'd use a precise work roll, dedicated to smooth finish. Leachdude Posted March 27, 2012 Author Share Posted March 27, 2012 Just a little update. I just ordered my speaker panel from mameman. I will be just going with a set of PC speakers on this build. I got my computer parts order in, had a bad SSD and the GTX460 video card was bad as well. Waiting on my motherboard mounting tray, plunger, buttons. Almost got everything I need. Trying to get my mot-ion digital plunger and buttons setup for visual pinball. Is there a tutorial on how to make you games work with the plunger? I loaded one game up it plunger back but on release would not hit the ball. A couple games the flipper buttons will not even work. What is the best way to set this up? Thanks Unfortunately, most of the tables out there do not come with plunger support built in. You're starting to see it with some of the newer tables being released, but most you will still have to add support yourself. One quick way to find out is to see if there is a plunger object on the table. If there is, click the "Enabled Mechanical Plunger" checkbox. If you're script savvy, you can add the support yourself, but this is usually not the case for us cab builders. I have the plunger working fine. What is the trick to get the motion to calibrate? Mine seems to just be moving all around on its own after calibrating. The balls moves in the shooter lane and I am not even moving the table. Make the ball do weird thing during play. Is there a way to turn this off? DeeGor Posted May 3, 2012 Share Posted May 3, 2012 I had problems calibrating mine as well. Apparently when going through the calibration settings in windows, you should secure the unit, click until you get to the part where it's asking you to move the device around. This is where you remove the unit from your cab and move it all around, like shake the crap out of it. Then secure it back to your cab. Simply jarring your cabinet around when going through the wizard isn't enough. I can't really vouch for this method, as I was never able to successfully get nudging working properly with the nanotech. I either had it where the cab would nudge when I didn't even touch anything or I would have to body check the side of the cab to get it to register. Some people have had some success using programs like dxtweaks to establish a deadzone. I ended up just giving up and going with a MS sidewinder gamepad w/xpadder. The gamepad was only $15 and it was super simple to setup. It's not analog, but some guys here are working on that as well. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Leachdude Posted May 4, 2012 Author Share Posted May 4, 2012 Ok new problem. A few tables are having an issue with the DMD being on the 2nd or 3rd monitor. If the DMD is on the PF the table will play fine. I drag it to the 2nd monitor it works fine until I restart and then the table is SLOW to the point it wont load the DMD anymore. Any thoughts? Leachdude Posted May 7, 2012 Author Share Posted May 7, 2012 OK well got the DMD issue working. Never figured it out in WindowsXP. I installed windows7 and now it work perfect. Now a new problem. Man it just on bug after another but it's working itself out. I load hyperpin and select a table. Table load fine. I can quit the table and hyperpin come up and works fine. Problem is if I leave a table loaded for a long amount of time (say and hour or so) when I exit the table hyperpin launches back up but will act as if it frozen, the pinball wizard controls do nothing. I can hit f3 on the keyboard a couple times then it will work. Anyone have a clue what this could be ?? Thanks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
