Commodore Amiga Demo Wheels Project

I started working on wheels for the Commodore Amiga Demos database.

I have done 13 so far and I guess i could use some help! ;)

The process is quite simple, google demo name followed by amiga... for example;

"3d demo 2 anarchy amiga" and you will quickly find a screenshot of the title screen, janeway often has good screenshots.

Give it a whirl in photoshop with the quick selection tool and/or the magic wand depending on the image. Save, upload.

The current wheels can be found on the FTP, Upload here/spotUP/Commodore Amiga Demos/Wheels/

I will also make a new theme for this database.

I´m just about to install an Amiga demo system in HS, is there a torrent for demos or where can I download them?

I had a lot of WHDLoad demos before, must search my harddrives.

I had a lot of WHDLoad demos before, must search my harddrives.

There is a thread on this sort of thing here: http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?35643-Amiga-demo-wheel

There has been much done on that thread for sure. It is almost complete, just a couple more demos that need to be tested.

Thanks,

Ron

I think we need a bit more teamwork on this one, there are different naming conventions.

spotUP´s looks like this: <game name="Hardwired_v1.1_Crionics&Silents" index="" image="">

while Turranius is: <game name="Hardwired" index="" image="">

If we should help out making wheels I think we need to decide which xml to use so we don´t have to rename each others wheels.

There are no other wheels than spotUP´s yet?

Thanks Turranius, I downloaded it all :)

The xml I downloade from Turranius contains almost 70 more demos than the one from spotUP!

For now I will keep the Turranius set and I will do as spotUP suggested, search for screenshots.

If anyone has another idea of which xml to use, let us know.

I´ll be at home for the next three weeks after an eye surgery so I will have lot´s of time searching for screenshots or maybe make some screenshots on my own :)

My set is updated from time to time since WHDLoad games/demos are still being created and comes out with new versions.

That is why my roms are named like that. If I had versions in the XML (and roms) it will be a pain in the arse each time a new version comes out. New romname, edit XML entry, rename all media? No thanks.

I opt for no version in the rom names. Imagine if MAME had it like that. "kinst0.198.zip". Urk.

As I have some spare time at the moment I will take screenshots from demos so I can use them as wheels.

I don´t have the patience or knowledge to cut them out, I tested today and made only 5 now.

If you would like to see, check my FTP folder, I will use them as long as no other are available.

I stopped making wheel art as there is already art available. I am not sure where i got it from though... someone had uploaded a complete amiga demo setup on the ftp.

I can share mine though if people are interested.

On emumovies there is a videoset available for the amiga demobase collection. It's huuuuuge.

I didn't manage to get that running in hyperspin though and i didn't find any xml. It would be very cool to have a merged WHDLoad/Demobase wheel.. anyone up for getting this going?

I´m very interested in the wheel art, can you upload to your FTP folder?

Grabbing the video set from emumovies now. Will run Tur-Match on it to see what matches my XML =) Thanks for the tip.

Edit: Seems its not quite right. its intros for games mostly it seems. Have not seen any actual demos yet.

Abandon - Bloody Data.mp4

Abandon - Compact Intro.mp4

Abandon - For Your Entertainment.mp4

Abandon - Huge Pile Of Bullshit.mp4

Abandon - Intro Mini.mp4

Abandon - Kick Off 2 - Return to Europe.mp4

Abandon - Loom.mp4

Not what we want..

Edit2: Yeah, this is useless for this purpose sadly. Aborting download.

I´m comparing the videos from emumovies with the xml I got from Turranius and there are not many that´s correct.

Guess it´s useless as Turranius says.

I have now got FRAPS and I will start recording videos today, but this will take some time :)

I will use Turranius xml with WHDLoad demos and I have also tried one disk demo, Space Deliria, which worked just fine.

How do you do with demos that are more than one disk, how do you change disk?

Yes I know WHDLoad does it, but if there are demos with multiple disk that are not yet converted to WHDLoad?

Space Deliria only exists on disk so far, but it´s only one disk.

I need some help here, I´n not good at all at handling videos.

I run WinUAE in 640x480, borderless window and record videos with Fraps that saves in avi format.

Fraps don´t have that many settings for the recording, FPS is set to 50 otherwise it seems that sound is not synced correctly.

30 sec video gives a file size about 190MB, then I convert it to MP4 with Handbrake, and I get a file of about 2MB, but that is still the double size compared to Amiga game videos.

If I try to lower the quality with Handbrake it all becomes useless.

I just added Space Deliria to the xml and then copied the adf to Commodore Amiga Demo rom folder.

And ofcourse added adf extension to the emulator in HLHQ

But what happens if there are multiple disks? I don´t know.

There is a multiple disk function in WinUAE, but I don´t know how to use it, haven´t tried it.

My guess is that you add several diskimages and then use a hotkey to change.

Oh, and I discussed the video converting on a Swedish forum and have got it to be as I want.

Have started recording.

I checked my setup now... i have videos for 90% of the demos. I have wheels for maybe 80%.

Uploading the theme as well, it has artwork 2/3/4 included as a part of the theme.

I don't know how to share the vids..

Posted

Nice, I downloaded the whole set.

But how are we going to continue with this?

I´m still using Turranius set while making movies of the demos.

This is beginning to look like a bad idea, there are probably at least 500 demos too many.

All those boring music disks...

And I need another program than Handbrake to convert the avi videos to MP4.

I want a program that can be set to output all files in a batch to 640x480 without any croping.

In Handbrake it must be set individually to each file.

I finally found it, you have to make your own profile in Handbrake that it will use for all queued files.

As i said, i have videos for most of the demos, you can have them and 'just' make vids for the missing ones?
