Mortal Kombat X

So Mortal Kombat is coming out fairly soon, is anybody worried that there may be issues setting it up with IPAC. The last Netherealm game to come to PC (Injustice) had issues with binding keys. Hopefully this isn't an issue with Mortal Kombat X.

I've been messing with it the past hour, but it isn't going so good.

I have it so most controls work on the 1p side. It doesn't seem to let you combine buttons though so it seems to need an 8 button setup. 2 punch, 2 kick, throw, interact, stance, block (at least)

My bigger problem is that while the re-mapped controls work in-game and in the initial menus, they don't work on the character select screen. For some reason it forces me to use WSAD controls for character selection.

The other problem is that if I touch my wireless keyboard at all it sets that as the P1 controller and stops accepting inputs from the iPac.

Really sucks and I'm not sure how to fix it. If anyone knows that would be great.

I had this same issue. Even when remapping the buttons it didn't control things on the UI.. x360ce also didn't work.. Finally, I found a solution.....

Use VJoy. It seems the game recognizes any joystick as a wireless xbox 360 controller.. Here are the mappings (I only learned this through trial and error!)

Left, Right, Up, and Down are all the same.

Button 1 = X

Button 2 = A

Button 3 = B

Button 4 = Y

Button 5 = LB

Button 6 = RB

Button 7 = LT

Button 8 = RT

Button 9 = Back (I'm assuming.. don't know how to test this in-game)

Button 10 = Start

Personally, I switch where LT and RT are placed (makes enhanced moves easier on my CP), but that's a matter of personal preference:

X | Y | LB | RB

A | B | RT | LT

Good luck!

EDIT:

Because of reading, I see that you're not using an 8 button CP.. Maybe through some creativity you could map out a button combo for those buttons (XPadder)? Not sure how that works in combination with the "Block Keys" function in VJoy, but perhaps it's doable?

Vjoy? Thanks. I've asked for a refund on the game, but if they won't do that I'll look into it. You're using it to make an iPac control panel work like a 360 pad?

Do you have it set in Hyperlaunch/spin to make these control changes when the game launches somehow?

Basically, yes.. this is how it's configured.

IPAC -> vjoy -> MKX

Normally you would have to use x360ce (Xbox 360 controller emulator) to make the game see a virtual joystick as a 360 pad.

IPAC -> vjoy -> x360ce -> Game

For whatever reason, MKX sees any joystick, virtual or otherwise, as a 360 pad (or at least shows the button icons for one). My mapping above just lists which virtual buttons correspond to which 360 pad button.

Make sure you install vjoy by headsoft, not the other janky one. There are a lot of tutorials on how to configure it, but take a look after installing and it should become pretty apparent what to do.

http://www.headsoft.com.au/index.php?category=vjoy

Further, the vjoy profile is configurable via hyperlaunch HQ under the key mapping section for each system (the end result is an ini named after the game's entry in your XML). You'll also need to configure the path to vjoy in your global settings after installing.

I've only 6 buttons on my CP what buttons can you suggest to remap?

Personally, I'd remap interact and flip stance to shifted commands (RB and LT) as they aren't 100% necessary. Xray moves are flip stance + block, so you'll want to make sure you can still execute that in a shifted state. You may also be able to shift the throw command. The real trick is seeing if the game will let you do something while another button is being held. Play around with it and see what you can do.

For instance, try making your block button the shift button in xpadder. It would send the keystroke for block in either state. Front and back kick buttons become flip stance and block. So your xray move would be the block button + back kick. Haven't tested this myself (maybe I can this weekend if you're still having issues), but it works on paper.

Thanks Violentsingalong (Why does the quoting not work for me on this new sight? I can't even copy/paste into this text box...)

I'll look into that.

Before I dive into this Vjoy thing can you answer a couple questions?

This will let me assign both joysticks as virtual 360 controllers through a single ipac?

Is there a way to auto-launch this program in the background from hyperspin for PC games that need it? I suppose also a way to auto close it if you close the game back to the Hyperspin menu?

Yep! You can set 2 virtual joysticks for one IPAC. Opening/closing vjoy and/or xpadder automatically is part of they key binding tab in HLHQ.

If you have a joystick plugged in, unplug it and try again. Otherwise, yes. Follow the steps discussed previously in this thread with vjoy and you should be set.

Is it me or is the volume of the sound in this game very low?

Need to turn the volume a lot.

Is there a setting or hack for normal volume level?

Mines the opposite. Even using Vjoy I can't tell what buttons are which because all it shows me are keyboard commands instead of 360 buttons.

This game is a serious pain in the ass to setup.

I still can't figure out why I can't quote anything on this new forum.

Are you using the block keys option in vjoy?
Posted

The Vjoy instructions say the block key options don't work with Windows 7 64bit (which is what I run).

However thanks to your advice I now have it running perfectly on my 6 button setup using nothing but Vjoy.

Here's how I have it setup in Vjoy:

Button 1 = X/Light Punch

Button 2 = A/Light Kick

Button 3 = B/Heavy Kick

Button 4 = Y/Heavy Punch

Button 5 = LB/Throw but I say leave this configured as "none"

Button 6 = RB/Interact

Button 7 = LT/Flip but leave this as "none"

Button 8 = RT/Block

Button 9 = Back Button

Button 10 = Start Button

I set mine up basically the same as an MK arcade machine:

Interact (button 6 RB)    -   Light Punch (1 X)   -   Heavy Punch (4 Y)

Block (Button 8 RT)       -   Light Kick (2 A)      -   Heavy Kick (3 B)

Press Light Punch + Light Kick to throw

Press Light Kick + Heavy Kick to Flip stance

Press Block + Light Kick + Heavy Kick for X move

I set my Player 1 and Player 2 buttons as Start (pause and menus)

I set my Shifted Coin Button as Back (which will reset your on screen position in training).

Now I just need to figure out how to launch a Steam game from Hyperspin and how to have it launch my Vjoy ini file when the game launches.

I've only 6 buttons on my CP what buttons can you suggest to remap?

The game is designed to be played with only 6 buttons (albeit in the classic MK3 arcade button layout)

assuming you have a street-fighter style 6-button layout I would recommend what most tournament players use which is like this:

FP | BP | BL

FK | BK | FS

with the default Xbox buttons that would be

X | Y | RT

A | B | LT

Interact/Throw are just button combos

Throw = FP+FK

Interact = FP+FK

X-Ray = BL+FS

Just make sure you have input shortcuts on in the game options..

If you unplug your controller or disable it for this game, it allows you to not only use KB controls but also allows you to remap them.

I need unplug my Wireless Keyboard before launch MK10

After that my IPAC grab the vjoy control and i remapping them?

right?

Another question...but AHK keymapper work with Vjoy ini remap? how you move with Keyboard on main menu? i need setting the arrow key for player one and remap them for play the game...

I'm very confused!

Good it's a step by step settings tutorial.... :wacko3:

The two posts before this show you two ways to set it up.

-Download and install Vjoy from the link Violent provided earlier in this thread.

-Set up the buttons within Vjoy (not the game) like in the previous two posts.

-Launch MK10

-As soon as you press a button on your control panel the in-game keyboard icons will switch to 360 icons.

You don't need to unplug your keyboard. The player one joystick will now work in menus and at the character select screen. Player two can join by pressing the Player 2 button on the control panel.

In the Krypt the interact button turns you left and I believe hitting all 3 buttons for flip stance turns you right.

Everything should now work perfectly for this game. However I'm finding that having Vjoy installed breaks the controls for Ultra Street Fighter IV (and possibly other games).

Just turning Vjoy off doesn't fix it. The only way I've found to get USFIV working perfectly again is to actually un-install Vjoy or to go into Device Manager and disable it there (it is located under Human interface devices). Does anyone know a fix for this? I'll probably make a separate thread just to figure this part out.

Made a post about that issue here http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/topic/8636-help-with-vjoy-acting-crazy/

Use both Vjoy and Xpadder.

OK. Xpadder looks like it is to make keyboard inputs look like 360 inputs. Isn't that kind of what Vjoy already does? Are you saying it could help by letting me map joystick inputs to the d-pad to keep the joysticks from going crazy? Or will it help in some other way...

Can you explain a bit more before I buy xpadder and mess with it for a few hours trying to figure it out?

Posted

Because Xpadder uses Xinput where Vjoy does not. Some games need the Xinput in order to work.
