griffin518 Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 I'm just getting RetroArch up and running to replace my individual emulators for NES, SNES, and Genesis. For some reason both Genesis core options just aren't working with bezels under RocketLauncher. The screen will flicker several times then just go into the game with black bars on each side vs the bezels. Bezels work fine for the NES and SNES cores, as well as for the individual Genesis emulator I've been using for a while (Fusion). Thoughts? Thanks! Lords100 Posted May 10, 2015 Posted May 10, 2015 I had the same problem with bezels working with my RocketLuncherUI until I updated my RocketLuncherUI using "Git" I had about 133 update I was not even able to see any bezels loading unit i updated. I just received black lines on the sides. Now I'm able to see all my Bezels under the RocketLuncherUI just perfect!!!!, the problem I am having now is that when I go into Hyperspin itself I don't see any of my Bezels at all. I can only see them perfectly under RocketLuncherUI not Hyperspin. All my bezels are located in D:\Hyperspin\Media\Bezels http://www.rlauncher.com/wiki/index.php?title=RocketLauncher_Downloads hmmm any Ideas? Thanks!

justice999 Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Why not using RetroArch bezel? It works the same as HL bezel, you better keep everything within one software (emulation/bezel/shaders etc...).
Styphelus Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Don't use bezels Rockelauncher bezels with Retroarch. Retroarch can overlay it's own bezels called overlays and you can adjust your window size to fit them perfectly.

I'm committed to RL bezels, they work very well and the community (read HERE) support for them is terrific. Besides, I'm only having issues with a single bezel (says Genesis on the sides) for one emulator. The rest of the systems (incl. MAME) are working beautifully. I'll just leave Genesis on Fusion until I can figure it out, or forever, whichever happens first. Ultimately it's a minor annoyance that no one other than myself will ever know about. Styphelus Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 "I'm committed to RL bezels" I don't even know what this means...
griffin518 Posted May 11, 2015 Author Posted May 11, 2015 Haha. Something like "I've got so much time and effort into getting them working just the way I like, I'm not switching. justice999 Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 RA will take 10 seconds per systems, why using 2 software if you can only use one? This genesis problem cant happen with RA for example. HL is always updated, what about RL now, you will always have to tweak your settings...
gigapig Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I'll admit I've not looked into RetroArch for a while and have not update the nightly nor have I been following the thread over at RL. Since the RocketLauncher 1.0 update I started testing a few systems and noticed none of them work, sometime RA will start but just be a black screen or the fade just keeps going and going. So today I updated it and tried again but I had the same results. So checked the configs for Sega Genesis and it was using the Genesis Plus GX core, well I never chose that I always use Picodrive. I've now zipped up the old configs and now in the process of redoing them and each one is working when tested. However something is wrong with both Genesis and Master System with regard to bezels, which maybe something to do with the core or the config. On start RA flashes multiple times and the game is not positioned in the bezel, if I press the bezel change key then it positions properly. Atari 2600 is working fine with bezels, so it's off to the other site to see if it's a know issue.

On start RA flashes multiple times and the game is not positioned in the bezel, if I press the bezel change key then it positions properly. That's exactly the same behavior I'm seeing. It's very odd as both NES (Nestopia) and SNES (snes9x) cores are working with RL bezels just as they were when using the individual emulators outside of RA. I'll admit I've not looked into RetroArch for a while and have not update the nightly nor have I been following the thread over at RL. Since the RocketLauncher 1.0 update I started testing a few systems and noticed none of them work, sometime RA will start but just be a black screen or the fade just keeps going and going. I'm running the most up to date version of RL 1.0, with the last stable build of RA. It's all working well, so you should give it another shot if so inclined. I've been appreciating the consistent shader between systems, that's what I'm really going after. I'll admit I had no luck with any of the nightly RA builds... had issues even loading ROMs. Here's my setup: HL 1.4 beta (build 14) -> RL 1.0 (updated 5/10/15) -> RA (latest stable as of 5/09/15). HL is always updated, what about RL now, you will always have to tweak your settings... Because I'm coming from a working set of individual emulators. I'd like to combine them into RA, but if it's not working as I'd hoped it's really no additional effort to just leave Fusion running. It's not like I've had to tweak it at all. I've now gone through two RL updates and the full upgrade from HL, haven't had to tweak a thing. It's carried all of my original settings through with no issue. The latest stable version of RA is over 1 year old. That's just the date it was last uploaded. You need to use one of the nightly builds. If I remember correctly, the RA module was updated to work with the nightlies as of December last year. There were significant changes to cause issues with previous versions of RA. You will have issues if you use the "stable" version. Just tested my Sega systems and I don't have any problems. I'm using bezels but as overlays within retroarch itself. Games load right away without delays or flashing.
Awakened Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 So checked the configs for Sega Genesis and it was using the Genesis Plus GX core, well I never chose that I always use Picodrive. Why? GPGX is far more accurate and compatible with more games. Do you have problems with the Sega CD BIOS? The libretro wiki explains what the files need to be named here. PicoDrive should only be used for 32x (since GPGX doesn't emulate it and MESS doesn't do it very well) or on platforms too slow for GPGX.

Awakened, thank you, great info as always I will swap to that core. It may not have worked when I went back to it because the config file needed creating a new. I spent a while last night reading the RetroArch module discussion which cleared up a couple of things and I'm sure I was using the old stable version not the recommended nightly. Edit:All now working with GPGX now, thanks, just needed to redo the cfg.

gigapig Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 So no more flashing/disappearing bezel? Sorry I should have been more specific. No I just got the system running in RA, the bezel issue is still there. I have reported it on the rlauncher forum on the RetroArch Module thread.
griffin518 Posted May 13, 2015 Author Posted May 13, 2015 Giga, Did you follow or find any good guide to getting the nightly builds of RA up and running? I've had some good luck with the stable (old) build of RA but zero luck with the nightlys. Just curious. Thanks!
