Noob question - setup CHD files...

Question

Posted

I just installed hyperspin, and Rocket Launcer, via this very hepful post (http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/topic/2187-how-to-install-hyperspin/). I have both ROM & CHD files in two separate folders under my ROM's section.

I have a couple of questions (realize they are noob, but couldn't find answer in forums).

  1. Does the MAME emulator run CHD's?
  2. Is there anything specific I need to do for setup to configure the CHD for RocketLauncher and Hyperspin?

I also ran the system audit under the "Games" menu for my mame and found I was missing close to 2000 games from the system database. Is the system database the Mame list found in mame.xml in the database file in hyperspin?

Again, I know this might be noob questions. I am trying to setup my re-vamped Mortal Kombat II cabinet, and just getting the PC setup (fyi, I go the hardware from www.ultrimarc.com to connect the cabinet to the PC).

Thanks

Hi there!

1°)

Mame recognize chd as well !

in My personnal setup i put both chd folder (with chd's zip inside) and rom zip in the rom folder of mame !

try this with street fighter III.

You should have a loading screen that confirm Mame took your CHD !

the 2nd solution is to merge your version set of romset and chdset ( version 0.162  rom and version 0.162 Chd for example) with clearmamepro

maybe someone could give you a good tuto in english

2°)Nope just have to point your rom logically your extention is set as .zip or 7z, and your Chd have the same name as your rom name .

Hope you find your answer .

Firstly make sure the ROM sets, database and Mame versions match, that might be why you're missing 2000 ROMs.

The CHDs should remain untouched in their folders and the others remain zipped. You can put them anywhere but put the paths in RLUI. Mine are all in the same folder but I did once have them separated.

Mame can be a bit tricky for noobs too. Well, maintenance wise anyway. I find it gets updated far too often. As lio974 points out, current version is .162 and the xml`s you will find are based off that version. My last update was to .155 (less than year ago). I`ve spent that time making sure all my media works and trimming down games I will never play. The Mame library is just too big even with the trimmings that are already done to the mame.xml. Depending on what set you have, you may have some of those 2000 games just named differently. But Mame doesn`t just rename archives. Sometimes it adds, moves, deletes and or renames the individual files inside the rom. Updating is a lot of work too, and I have never been able to use clrmamepro to successfully build a new set. There is just too many options, unclear choices, errors I don't know how to fix. I usually end up DLing the whole new set... This would entail re-doing all my own tweaks all over again so I won`t be updating too often. Check your version. And, yeah Mame wants all roms and chd folders in the /Mame/roms/ directory.
