SIMPLYAUSTIN Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 DOS, an overlooked system for soo damn long. But one that almost started the way games are made and published. Its a very overlooked system due to it being soo poorly emulated and very complicated setup in the past. Those days are over now and we can now get this going on hyperspin no problem. I have a good collection of art and media for this. But its just a fraction of what is made. Even dome of the greatest games made ever have yet still to have yseable art I want to change that and get this system back and loved like it should have been . So what I need before I put the pack together is anything you may have that could be added to it. Cases, disks, covers, flyers, wheels, art of any kind related to this system. Also I need the movies or snaps to go with all these. If anyone has any snaps, pics, gameplay please let me see it? Once I have as much as I can I will work my magic and come up with a 4:3 pack 16:9 pack and a vid to go with it as always. Anything is a help guys... Any thing!! As always you can get me on PM or social media if your uncomfortable posting here Happy gaming!! Simply Austin's YouTube
hpr Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Austin, good idea. What database are you going to use? There's a big torrent on PD, do you plan on making a database for that? Keep us updated! ;-)
Styphelus Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 I love DOS games but adding them to D-Fend Reloaded is a pain. I moved my setup to a new drive and to this day still haven't figured out to to change paths in Defend (something about not having a mounted drive). So most of my games are unplayable at the moment. Also, there are hundreds of really terrible DOS games, not to mention games in CGA mode ( 10th pin bowling be par comes to mind) or pointless text based adventures. The torrent over at PD includes many of these useless and pointless games. What will be the guidelines to create a proper database?
SIMPLYAUSTIN Posted October 8, 2015 Author Posted October 8, 2015 Database is alpha last time I seen it. Its naming is per every game available on the eXeDOS series. I intend on setting the DOS system up as per intended by eXeDOS intended. So game is chosen, game installs to temp place. Game ends and game it gets deleted except save files. I had it working with RL but deleted system due to lack of art. I think I'm up to the 1000 ish mark for wheels... But long long way to go.I'm sure there's many more burried away. As for shit games... Very true. I myself keep the complete set, but its easy enough to delete unwanted or not add wheels for these not wanting to show. Then just tick wheel only or another way to sort. But the names would have to be the eXeDOS version, to be honest it has good names Simply Austin's YouTube
damageinc86 Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Yeah DOS is very overlooked. But I think exodos is just way too many games, and way too many shit games. Plus, even that would never be complete technically, as there are loads and loads of weird underground games from the early days that I don't even know the names of, and have never seen anywhere. DOS wasn't like a console with a clearly defined game set. What I would do for a hyperspin database is take a while and have people submit their personal databases and see if you can mash all those together in a sort of "DOS Classics" type of database. To have a core database with some greatest hits, so to speak, might be good as at least a basic, base level database for people to set-up ms-dos with. I myself, only have like 50 games, and those are all of the games I can remember really playing as a kid. But I'm sure there are some fun games that I either don't remember, or never had the chance to play, and some people might have those in their database. Dfend re-loaded has been a breeze for me to add, and edit each game. There have been times when it auto-detected a setup.exe instead of the actual game.exe, and it was easy to double-click the entry and change the path to the right file within the virtualhd folder. I'd also just have a basic tutorial for D-fend Re-loaded up, as that is one of the best ways to get to playing DOS games IMO. I have some crude screenshots saved from when i showed someone how to add a game. I'd love to see at the very least, better media for this "system", as it's a shame there's not more. It really is super fun to play some of these games. Some of my game videos have had to be 240p though, because that's all I could find.
namdor Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Oh man, I have a few thousand dos games. I've been waiting to tackle this system last. I don't think I have any media I'll check though.
