Help with xpadder setup with hyperspin and an ipac

I am trying to set up xpadder for use with hyperspin, and I am having some problems.  I am using an Ultimarc Ipac 2 as my button interface.  When I go to settings on my computer, then devices, then connected devices, the ipac shows up there as Ultimarc I-pac.  However, when I open up X-padder, there is a little magnifying glass next to the controller icon, and it just keeps searching for controllers.  Also in x-padder i click settings, then controller, then control panel.  A list of controllers pops up, but nothing is listed here.  It seems that x-padder is not recognizing my ipac as a controller and allowing me to use it to create a profile.  What do I need to do to get this to work?

x-padder is used to map joystick keys to keyboard keys.

an Ipac is a Keyboard encoder,  its already set to run on keyboard keys.

X-padder will never work with your ipac or any other keyboard encoder.  It needs a joystick or a joystick encoder.

Oh no, that's not good news!  How then do I set up rocket launcher to memorize the keyboard bindings that are mapped to my buttons through my ipac??

Well, I am looking under the global setting on rocket launcher, and I am wanting to make a profile that will apply to all my emulators.  So, I am trying to setup my key bindings in x-padder and then load it into rocketlauncher so that it will apply to all my emulators.  Am I doing this the wrong way?  How should I go about doing this?  Sorry, I am new to all this.  Is there a different way I should be going about setting this all up?  Please let me know if so.

I am so confused.  All the videos I have been watching have been telling me to do all this assignment stuff through rocketlauncher under key mapper.  So click global, general settings, controls and assign it there in rocketlauncher instead of through the keymapper section?

I'm confused on what you're trying to do. Like he said no need to use xpadder, it's for control pads. The vids are probably telling you how to set up your controller, which you're not using.

Are you just trying to set up your actual iPac controls? If so you don't do that through RocketLauncher. You do that through the iPac setup program, just follow the instructions your iPac 2 came with and program each button to be what you want it to be. It's easy.

Here's the link to the overall instructions for the iPac: http://www.ultimarc.com/ipac2.html

Here's the link to the setup program: http://www.ultimarc.com/winipacv2.html & http://www.ultimarc.com/download.html

Then once you have your buttons assigned you can set up each emulators controls individually and your Hyperspin menu controls in HyperHQ. I don't remember setting any controls in RocketLauncher itself.

Keymapper is something different entirely. That allows you to:

-re-bind your keyboard keys (using autohotkey) for games that might not otherwise work. For example the game Not a Hero doesn't let you re-bind keys in-game, so use this to make it work with the buttons you chose for your control panel/iPac.

-Set up VJoy (installed separately) for use with those games that might need it to work at all. For example Mortal Kombat 10 needs to be set up through VJoy to work through an iPac.

-Xpadder for controllers

You only need some sort of keymapper if you cant map your controls through the emulator.

For example if you have 3 buttons for player 1 (setup on your ipac),

Button 1= letter A

Button 2= letter B

Button 3= letter C

You would go into mame and assign button 1, 2, 3 to letters a,b,c respectively.

If you went into nestopia (for nintendo as an example), you would assign button B and A (on the nes) to letters 2 and 3 respectively.

If for example you were using an obscure emulator and the only way to use the fire button it to press control you would use a keymapper then.

E.g. remap ctrl to the letter A (your button 1).

Hope this helps.

Rocketlauncher is only for remapping not for configuring the controls of your emulators.

Not wanting to add an extra layer of confusion but I'm sure the current ipac (2015) can assign keys to a joystick.... you might be able to use xpadder only then.?

Ok, thanks everyone.  I think I understand now.  So, what you all are saying about setting it up in my emulators is that I need to actually go into my emulators folder and run the .exe file for each emulator and then figure out how to change the settings for the buttons from within each emulator?  I'm sure I can find a guide/instructions for each emulator on how to setup their controls, if just launching the .exe file for the emulator is the way to go.

If you already have your iPac buttons configured how you want and just need to set the controls for each emulator then yes.

Awesome thanks so much for clearing all that up.  I'll post pics when I am finished building my cabinet and putting it all together.  Thanks again!

their is only one way you can use X-padder.

if your PC finds a joystick

When I installed V-joy, x-padder then recognized the keyboard as a joystick.  But I'm just going to do what you guys said and map it in the emulator.  Much simpler than all that!

Just a tip to save you frustration later.

Careful with Vjoy. Just having it installed can make many other games and programs not work right or not work at all. For example the AAE emulator won't even launch when VJoy is enabled. Broforce (and several other games) game won't run. Some will work, but won't control correctly (SSIV). However some won't run correctly without it (Mortal Kombat X).

You don't need to uninstall it, simply open your device manager and disable its drivers unless you're playing a game that needs it.

Thanks for the tip.  Geeze this stuff is so complicated!

90% of it is easy and straightforward. It's the exceptions to the rule that will trip you up.

Yep, Vjoy started messing me up.  I just uninstalled for now, as I don't have any game pads anyway.  With my ipac I'm straight keyboard emulation.

Yeah, that's why I warned you. You don't need to uninstall it though. You can simply disable the drivers in Device Manager.

It can be super useful, or even absolutely necessary, for some PC games as it makes your iPac register as a joystick/controller.
