harleyguy Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 New user here, so if this has been answered before please point me in the right direction! I've been tinkering with Hyperspin for a month or so now and almost have it where I want it. I really like the Arcade Classics genre wheel in MAME and would like to add it to the Main Wheel, which I have done without an issue. My issue is getting all of the media to carry over. The Hypersync utility doesn't have a selection for arcade classics so I can't just download the preferred media files. Since the files already exist in the MAME media folder, is there a way to point the Arcade Classics wheel to that media folder rather than it's own empty folder? I was looking in the settings but didn't see anything that looked like what I was searching for. If not, anyone else aware of a simple solution? Thanks! Harley
griffin518 Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Here's what you can do... just copy the Arcade Classics theme files, videos, wheels, etc. over the MAME equivalent in the main menu media folders. Just make sure they're renamed to MAME. Just because the wheel's named MAME doesn't mean you can't have the them say whatever you want, etc. I'm short on sleep and so a little loopy. If this doesn't make sense, feel free to ask questions. harleyguy Posted November 25, 2015 Author Posted November 25, 2015 I have never seen anyone have both a mame wheel and arcade classics wheel. It is usually that people use the title arcade classics in place of mame cuz they don't like calling it mame. I want to have a 'Best of' collection front and center for visitors who just want 'the good stuff', but still have access to everything for myself!

I want to have the 'Arcade Classics' on my Main Menu as my main selection which contains most games that most casual people coming over would want to play. (Pac Man, Donkey, Kong, Centipede, etc) I still want to have a full MAME set further down the main menu available for my use with a complete set, along with Genres etc. I created an 'Arcade Classics' wheel on the Main Menu and pointed it towards my Mame directory and roms. Everything plays perfectly and shows in the menus. The only issue is the media. I could copy over all of the Mame media, but it would be a huge hassle and suck up a ton of hard drive space. Ultimately if I could somehow tell this separate 'Arcade Classics' wheel to look to the MAME media directory (like how I point to the exe and rom folders) that would fix the problem perfectly.

Like Jeremy mentioned you can have a symlink or symbolic link made from your Mame directory. In a way similar to a shortcut but for folders and windows will think it's a separate directory. I use this little application to help me in creating these links, and as you mentioned it saves a ton of HD space.

I have a separate "kid's games" MAME wheel for my young children. It's set up exactly like this, but I just copy over the media. If you're short on hard drive space, the symlink option will work. I just have all my media re-copied over to each system, but this would be nicer if it works. Do you know will that program work with Win 10?

damageinc86 Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 I have used the hyperspinrommanager program to check against my database for png files and video files to add to other directories. That's how I originally separated my arcade classics OUT of the original mame media directory. Just set the program to look for png (wheels) for example then: point it to your arcade classics database point source folder to the mame wheels folder point the folder to copy to your arcade classics wheels folder scan button will compare mame media to your arcade classics database go through the resulting list and double check to see if the matches are 100%. If not then you will have to manually see if you can pick one that it missed, or if the name is just wrong. once that's sorted out, then you hit copy at the bottom, and voila! all the wheel images that match your database will be copied to that arcade classic wheel folder!

I plan on doing something similar but probably will just copy the roms and make a xml list then delete the copied roms and point back to my mame roms... or I will do the same but use my favorites as the xml source. having a best of games is always cool because even people that aren't really into it.... will play PAC MAN
