The NES was released in the USA on October 18, 1985. The Nintendo Famicom was released in Japan on July 15, 1983.

Also, TurboGrafx was not released in the USA until August 29, 1989. The PC Engine was released in Japan on October 30, 1987.

While they may share the same bones, they are not exactly the same system. They look completely different and play different games, Some games might be the same but there were lot of exclusives depending on the region.

I get that but even with the differences... I still consider the first release of the Famicom to be the original release.. same with the tg16.

wow, going back and listing my systems by release date (doing the research) I found that the way I remembered the systems was way of in a few cases.. like for some reason (I guess being in the USA) I remember NES from around 1985... but it was released in 1983... then I remembered the ATARI 7800 being released much earlier but it was actually released after the NES... also the TurboGrapx 16 was released in 1987 but I remember it from 1989... obviously Japan releases came earlier and if I could go back to those days.. we were always in the know about new stuff being released overseas but it just seems weird when you go by what you actually remember and then you see the facts..., it's just blows the mind a little.

check the download page. Made special art a for each of my systems, included dates on Em. It's in the template section

My favourite is how much later the N64 came out than the PSX, and how it's a miracle with all of their insane blunders Nintendo is even alive today. Don't get me wrong, I don't think N64 is a terrible system or anything lol it's just hella more complicated and expensive to produce cartridge based games and they decided to go that direction basically well beyond the event horizon of the disc era.

Load times, copy protection and scratch resistant. :)

I don't know why Nintendo went with carts but load times definitely make the best sense to users..... as far as piracy... definitely mass piracy but as I remember going back to the SNES... people were able to run the roms from a AMIGA 500 to the SNES with some extra hardware that connected the two.

On the subject of Nintendo.... they dropped n64, game cube and the wii... all I'm gonna say is I still have old catalogs that sold NES games when GENESIS and SNES were out.... so lets not even speak on the nintendo wii lmao.... WII U..and the wii is dead but as most folks in the know will tell you... the wii ain't nothing but a jazzed up game cube. it just seems that SONY beat everyone to the punch and they all tried to play catch up. I remember playstation when it first came out... it was another Panasonic 3DO type thing.... but then it became the next NINTENDO type thing.

Yeah lol people rag on Sega but Genesis was alright, especially when you consider it was released almost 2 full years before SNES. Saturn imo is decent and I love the controller; it's obviously not as nice as the PSX controller but it has a unique comfy feel to it and the hair trigger shoulder buttons are nice. Also Saturn had some pretty sick titles, it was just a slut to make games for apparently. Then everything about the Dreamcast is awesome... I really regret not getting a dreamcast when it came out. Plus Sega still makes a wide variety of good games.

Then Nintendo's like BAM! NES -> SNES!! Woot... King of the world bitches!!.. It's like Virtual Boy.... GameCube... GameCube with motion montrols... sub-PS2 equivalent with motion controls in the PS3+ era, sub-PS3 equivalent with stupid fat tablet controller in the PS4+ era.

I'm not a fanboy and I try to remain as neutral as possible in everything... but I definitely feel if it wasn't for Nintendo's mobile success they'd be toast and I do feel like they've just gotten very very lucky, especially lately, while Sega got as unlucky as possible at every turn. I've become resentful of Nintendo due to their decisions iun marketing, development, and public relations (ie. that whole YouTube takedown fiasco).

I know I'm a family man but I do like the Wii U although I did not buy it on release, instead waiting for the price to come down.

We all play Mario Kart 8, I shout at my daughter while we play Yoshi's Woolley World, my 3year old boy likes the look of Captain Toad Treasure Tracker and the pig has Bayonetta 1& 2 to play.

The only thing I care about is that it's fun which it is. We also still use Wii Fit U, just imagine Gigapig weighing his naked mushy butt in the lounge. ;)

The WiiU is the first console since the Intellivision that I didn't buy at launch.

I almost feel bad about that. I'm looking forward to their new NX system next year if it's as improved as they say it is.

I had a old Wii that was just sitting around... I only got into it 2 years ago when I learned about soft-modding it with homebrew channel, etc. opened up a world of Emulation (actually got me back into emulation) loved the USB LOADERS.. could dump your games on a HD and load them up.... good stuff! also using a SD card.. you could put your .WADS on there as well as load some .WADS from USB LOADERS (HARDDRIVE) if they worked after setting them up.

I don't know if the WiiU is better but the original Wii definitely didn't feel like a kick ass gaming system compared to Xbox or Playstation... I'm not a big fan of the WiiMote + NunChuck combo... really sucked on games that I probably would have been more comfortable playing on a PS controller.. I actually like the WiiMote for the tennis games lol

I definitely agree the mobile Nintendo devices saved them... I remember wanting a Game Cube... but never got it! I just remember them sitting in the stores like nobody was interested... to be honest SONY was king at this time. The DREAMCAST is a great machine... never had one but it seems amazing! I think SEGA never recovered from the SATURN.. I'm still confused about them announcing the SATURN before the 32X was launched lmao...

Yeah that's the only reason I ever got one. I like some Wii Games (esp. Mario Galaxy) and it helped fire up Platinum Games with MadWorld but I can't stomach the Wii visually. 480p wtf. Dolphin saves its playability for me.

It still blows me away that a) it was so easy to softmod B) you could play softmodded games online. I initially thought Nintendo knew but didn't care, since it boosted console sales. Now I suspect that didn't know the internet was a thing.
