ini files settings not working

So a few systems I just got running thanks to help from reznate and sting.  Sorry if I missed anyone else.

I'm using the C64 emulator for Nintendo 64 and games are not launching.  Here are the top several lines from my ini.  If anyone sees anything that needs correction please let me know.  My roms are all .n64 format with none compressed.

[exe info]
path=H:\hyperspin\emulators\Nintendo 64\
rompath=/storage/sdcard1/Hyperspin/Emulators/Nintendo 64/roms
userompath=true
exe=com.explusalpha.C64Emu/com.imagine.BaseActivity
parameters=
romextension=zip,n64
searchsubfolders=true
pcgame=false
winstate=HIDDEN
hyperlaunch=true

Wow I feel dumb, downloaded the wrong emulator.  doh!

1. For the TurboGrafx-16 system does this look correct?

exe=com.PceEmu/com.imagine.BaseActivity

2. For Mame, my roms are in 7z format.  Am I screwed?  I don't know a quick and easy way to convert 500 7z files into 500 zip files if trat's what's needed.

3. For the Sega 32 system what do I put in the exe=com line?  No clue

You say you have a few systems set up but you are clearly missing the workflow here. Try just setting 1 up at a time ok.

You should never really have to edit an ini file. All configuration should be done in the HyperHQ/RocketLauncherUI programs.

1. For future reference, If you open RL and select a system on the left, then the modules tab, it will list the emulators you can use for that system. A quick look at TurboGrafx-16 and no, pce is not listed there. So no!

2. RL can handle 7zip no problem

3. See answer #1

Just realized this is in the Android forum. NVM

So the only 2 systems that aren't working now are the N64 since there doesn't appear to be an Android TV compatible N64 emulator, at least one that shows up in the Play store on my Nvidia Shield TV.

And for the Sega 32x I just don't know if I need a special emulator or if the Genesis one will work.  If it will work then I'm assuming the exe= line would be exactly the same?

Can someone confirm how this system can work in Android?  Thanks  Everything else I'll try to tweak. Just need to know if I have to move my MAME roms out of 7z format and into zip instead.  That will be a huge pain in my behind because I've narrowed the roms down from 9,000 or so to the 530 or so I want.  The database has just those etc.  And I've deleted all others to free up space.

Retroarch works actually.  The nightly build has issues with ppsspp and mupen64 due to a glcontext bug (most-likely).   If you change the driver->menu to RGUI, both cores will launch properly.   Hopefully they fix the bug with the new GLUI soon.

I prefer retroarch for 32x

Again, I suggest you go with MAME2014 core with retroarch since it handles .7z.

BUT it really depends on the approximate timeframe of your roms.   If they are closer to MAME v159, go with Retroarch's MAME2014 core.    If they are MAME v139 roms, MAMEReloaded may be best but you'll need to recompress them as .zips.   There are utilities that will assist with this.     Retroarch has a v139 core they named MAME2010 but it's not available for Android yet.    They also have MAME GIT (latest/greatest) that combines MESS+MAME.     MAME continues to get slower over time so using an older version will give better performance.

I'll really need to stick with what I can download from the Google Play store.  I just don't have time to deal with anything else.  If they put out an N64 Emu for Android TV I'll get it.  Maybe I'll try RA for MAME after an update comes out.  I can never get it to save my config and the overlay comes back.  The controller settings don't save etc.   I'm not going to waste my rare free time dealing with buggy software that doesn't work.  If it ever works without requiring hacks and other gimmicks, maybe I'll try it some day.  You should just have to install it on the Shield, modify that one line in the ini files, and if your memory card is setup correctly for Hyperspin it should just work.  You should be able to quickly setup a controller or just have that work immediately and it should save your settings automatically or by someone just clicking a save button.  It's not doing that so the software is worthless to me and most people who don't want to spend 100-hours of setup time just to play Super Mario Brothers.  RetroArch is just not a working solution for Android TV.  Hopefully some day it will work well enough to warrant people using it.

  • 2 weeks later...

I tried working around them based on all the suggestions given to me on this forums and it didn't work.  Guess I'll wait until the app is updated in the store and try again if I have time.  Thank you.

It updated 2-3 days ago. Still seems buggy.

The best thing to do with Retroarch if your having problems is uninstall it, and all the data files, and then reinstall it. And don't mess around with the settings until you've used it for a while, and know what they do. Most people download it mess with the setting's and then wonder why nothing loads.
