djvj Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 This looks similar and possibly competing with Ouya: http://www.gamepop.tv/ It is basically the BlueStacks emu, but in a box and for your TV. When an emulator creates a console, it has me wondering if this is the new fad? gigapig Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Well... the problem is 99.9% of mobile games are simply ABYSMAL games. For some strange reason people seems to like them... I've bought a few mobile games and tried the free ones, and my Note II some of them look very good. But then if you throw in the stealth\blatant advertising and shitty controls (it's like playing Mr Do! or DK on a keyboard , it's not right), well I'm getting pretty fed up of them. I probably try them for 5 minutes and never go back. This thing does have a controller at least, but the games would have to be so good to tear people away from their next gen consoles. Sorry, I do like zen pinball etc on mobile but I have that on PC as well.
dark13 Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Yes, there are some good mobile games. Controls makes around 50% of a games playability, so with some genre you can make good games on a real keyboard mobile or touchscreen. Puzzle bubble for example does not require a "real" pad/joy so mobile keys just work fine (on 6680 i hacked frozen bubble to look like puzzle bubble ), same thing goes for angry birds: it's ok with a mouse and it's ok with a touchscreen. Before buying a nokia 5800 I used to play games on my 6600/6680/ecc... the ones you can play with terrible controls. Now... well, I've tried something but only puzzle games can be played with a touchscreen. Things like DK on a touchscreen is really "wrong". The hardware is obviously fine but controls sucks and much games keep it "simple" due to controls. Actual mobile games market seems pretty similar to 8bit computer game's market: a truckload of terrible games written too quickly just to cash in. Obviously there are some exception. Moreover some "good" games are just re-edition of old classics... Well, build a cheap pc and just play them on emulator In a cheap case like cooler master elite 120 you can do a lot of wonderful things Automatizing infopanels creation from .csv files for HTPCs themes (look at infopanel tutorial.zip on the ftp in dark13 folder) PNGs to SWFs automatized flash scripts Hyperspin Wheelset automatized template (photoshop's variables + batch) Aeon nox 4.13 W.I.P. hyperspin skin
gigapig Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I recently bought a game called Plasma Sky which is a horizontal shooter. It looks good but problem is, you don't actually shoot anything, it does the shooting for you, because of the touch screen control limitations. You just move left and right. Parsing the reviews of these games, properly, is my problem.
