Andalus75 Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Hi everyone I hope someone can help me... I have recently purchased an arcade cabinet with hyperspin on it and would like to get the retro look with the scanlines etc. I have enabled the Hlsl option in my Mame.ini file and changed the Hlsl files in ( the modules tab) rocket launcher to ini. However, after I try and launch a game from inside the wheel with these settings toggled it proceeds to the now loading screen and then returns to the graphic screen of the game. If i go back into rocket launcher and toggle the settings back to default I am able to launch the games in Mame but without activating Hlsl. Can somebody please help as I would love to get that retro look on my games. Thanks in advance
gigapig Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Welcome to the forum. Did you change the video mode? And does your ini folder only contain the Mame.ini? Also have a look at these threads http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/topic/13989-metalzoics-mame-169-hlsl-settings-of-doom/page-3#entry200385 http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/topic/9950-sharing-my-mame-162-hlsl-settings/page-10#entry207015 I have also done some videos on the subject.
Andalus75 Posted March 2, 2016 Author Posted March 2, 2016 Thank you for the reply Crispy Still no luck. I changed the video mode to ini in the settings tab but I don't have a seperate ini folder under my MAME dir. The mame.ini file just sits in the mame folder. Also when I try to set the ini path to the mame folder it always says " path cannot end with a backslash" but any other folder on my hard drive is ok. It's bewildering.
JoyStickKilla Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 mame.ini should be in the ini folder. Also he isn't talking about video mode as in the RLUI setting that you chose ini. He is talking about the video mode that MAME is using, ie opengl.
Andalus75 Posted March 2, 2016 Author Posted March 2, 2016 why doesnt my mame folder have a subfolder named ini? How do I find the video mode and change the opengl? Sorry for all the newb questions
gigapig Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 It is normal for the command line version of mame to have the ini file in the root. Perhaps try changing the RocketLauncher module setting from "ini" to "HLSL"
jcm9800 Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 dont know that your name is crispy giga ,-) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SUBZERO Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Why don't you just use GLSL instead of HLSL i made the switch and glad i did. i have command line mame and just made the ini folder and placed my ini in there. but one thing at a time, listen to the Pig first but the see what you are doing post you mame ini file here
gigapig Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 dont know that your name is crispy giga ,-) Or crispy Bacon?

Andalus75 Posted March 5, 2016 Author Posted March 5, 2016 im not sure I bought the arcade from a guy who puts them together....I'm quite new to all this but I'd love to become more informed about it all. The first thing though is I'd love to get the CRT retro look. I paid $2800 Aus for the cabinet I'm not sure if thats alot but he was the only guy selling it with hyperspin.

So are you not getting the effect? This is the trouble with prebuilt drives, if you want that feature they should add it for you. So if it's not working. From your ini, the line that says iniPath looks odd. If the ini folder is in your mame folder then that path needn't be d:whatever, it should be just ini. inipath d:\arcade\mame inipath ini
Andalus75 Posted March 7, 2016 Author Posted March 7, 2016 Hi Crispy I changed the ini path to where the mame.ini actually is which is in D:\arcade\emulators\MAME but no luck. Are my computers specs good enough to run HLSL and would it be an idea to update to the latest version of MAME?
