Main Menu Changer

The plot thickens... I am trying to open main menu.xml from MMC and I select it from the dropdown box, but it says file doesn't exist!

I'm looking right at it and it is in the correct directory and is absolutely there.

Could someone open MMCHQ and click edit other xml files then try to edit main menu.xml and see if it says "file don't exist" which is exactly what it says for me?

I've tried installing the app about 10 times now.  There's no way to "un" install it, but I've tried writing over everything over and over and that just isn't working either.

Well, to tell you the truth, I have no idea how or why or what I did, but it's all working now except a few things.

First, the orphan icons are not being deleted even though the startup script is running and I have it in the startup script.

Second, I see a flash of my desktop until the loading screen appears and I'd like to get rid of that.

Third, I'm getting a message on each load (every time it switches) that only one instance of HyperSearch can run at a time and I have to press enter to get past it.  That's not good because I run a dedicated cab without an enter button.

Finally, the HyperSearch picture loads one time, then I scroll through, and on the next scroll through after scrolling through all the options, the picture is gone!  There's just text there for HyperSearch.  The picture isn't showing for two systems, either.  Playstation and Gamecube.  They're there where they are supposed to be and if I enter either of the two systems then exit, the picture shows, but not on first scroll.  This is in any category they show in, and HyperSearch shows in all categories, but only text after the first scroll.

Other than that and the fact that I'd love to have some custom artwork, fingers crossed, everything is working and will hopefully continue to work.

It frustrates me not knowing exactly what I did to fix it because if it happens again I'm not going to have a clue what to do.

Thanks,

Howdy, ya make sure all the start up scripts paths match urs. You should be able to store the orphan exe anywhere

Yes it overrides the main menu, that’s how the app works

I found whenever I changed something, I needed to go to the launchers setting and resell them the mode I was using ie mode 3 and save it. This would update the metadata which would fix issues. It is frustrating but once you get it working it’s awesome! Let me know if you hit something else

Ok, so I have everything set up and working except my two issues above.

Now I want to add a system.

How do I go about adding a new system?  I just go into HyperHQ and add it as normal or do I need to do that from MMCHQ?  What do I do exactly?

Thanks,

Alright, I've finally figured everything out all but one little thing.

When exiting a system and going back a level, my desktop flashes for a second.  I have this set to hide but it isn't working.

Where should I look or what should I do?

This is running very beautifully now, thanks to Ninja's help with some artwork and I absolutely love it.

I know how to add systems now, and it's definitely a keeper.

If only I can figure out how to hide the desktop while it's loading...

Thanks,

There must be some other place that the kill explorer is called, but I don't know where.

Does your desktop show just for a second when you exit a menu level to go back?

Rarely but sometimes cuz I don’t have kill explorer on. But I also have my desktop set to the same background and I hide desktop icons so even when it slips I don’t notice it. In hyper hq I think the exit parameter needs to be kill explorer?

I read on this forum that the exit program needs to be MMCExit.exe.

Should kill explorer be in the startup script maybe?

I don't know where to call it??

I got it figured out.  Second page of this thread.  Had to download killexplorer.exe and put it in the startup script then restore explorer is handled by MMCHQ or whatever.

Working nicely, but it does require that all windows are minimized as it only kills the taskbar.  I have a black background on this PC anyway, so I don't know what it would do if I had a different background, but the way mine is set up now is working just great!

Thanks for the help,

I'm having trouble getting HyperSearch to work.

It works fine on the "all" wheel but on other wheels, I get a rom not found or no default emulator set up error message when trying to launch games.

It will search and find them ok, it's just when trying to launch from HyperSearch.

I don't know what to do to solve this.  Again, though, it's working on the "all" wheel so I don't know why it won't work on the other wheels.  I must be missing something.

Thanks,

Yep, my work around that is the all xml needs to have ALL your wheels on it in general. I don’t want my all system to display my playlist wheels so I have enabled=0 on alll xml. Take a look at my pack and the xmls, you’ll find a lot of enabled =0 this allows you to perform hypersearch across systems. I personally like hypersearch to only search the category. For example if I’m on the console wheel and search MARIO, it won’t return arcade Mario’s

I have the following in my Categories.xml.  This is the only xml with this entry.  Should this be in more than one xml?  Should these be changed to 1 instead of 0?  Here's an example of a few lines...They're all 0, though.

<!-- Enable Hypersearch -->
  <game name="MAME" enabled="0"/>
  <game name="Favorite" enabled="0"/>
  <game name="Daphne" enabled="0"/>

The all and category needs to have all the systems in there for sure but the category should also have it. Note the category needs all the wheels as enabled =0 since you want to only see the categories. Review what I uploaded and I think it’ll make sense

I'm looking at your xml files and I don't see any reference to these entries like I have.  I only see the one Hypersearch entry and mine is the same way.

So I need to copy what I posted above to all and to categories and leave them as enabled=0?

My all has all the systems listed as well, but it doesn't say enabled=anything...That part just isn't there.  I'm assuming that means it defaults to 1, or enabled.

So I have a list of all my systems in ALL.xml then below that I have that reference to HyperSearch and what I posted above.  But you don't have that in any of your xml files and your hypersearch works??  So should I remove it?

I still can't figure out why it works on the category and all menu's but when I try to launch from the collections menu, for instance, it will say default emulator not set up or rom not found?  It's obviously set up right and working on the main menu, so what else could it be?

I will try to do this again today. It will be my third try lol

I was going to this yesterday but the website was down.

Bear with me guys if I come back with questions.... also a video with mode 3 would be helpful.

Mode 3 just allows you to push the back button to go to the prior wheel which is how hyperspin. Works. The other modes you have to find the back wheel to go back. You’ll want mode 3. Be sure to get my pack and just change the paths in them and it should be self serving. Let me know

@ninja2bceen thanks I did get your pack and it is very helpful.... Also I was able to make it work but I messed up so hard that I am starting it again lol

edit: Trying this again and not working yet.... this is so frustrating :(

edit2: When I thought it was working and then going back to the menu of the categories, I get an error of creating main menu.xml and it corrupts that file... I don't know what else to do there :(
